September 30, 2026 is the date circled in red by those who assist a family member with a very serious disability: in fact, they should leave the INPS platform for the recognition of family caregivers. It is the first step towards official recognition of those who assist a relative with a very serious disability. It does not mean immediate access to the bonus, but it is the necessary step to be recognized as a caregiver and, only then, be able to request the contribution. Attention: the bill is still under discussion in Parliament, so the dates could change.
What is the INPS platform for caregivers and what is it for
The platform, scheduled to be online by September 30, 2026, will not directly open applications for the caregiver bonus. However, it serves a fundamental step, that is, to formally register the figure of the family caregiver, connecting him to the assisted person and his support paths. It is the preparatory step to everything else: without this registration it will not be possible to request the financial contribution at a later time.
How to register: procedure and digital credentials
Access to the INPS portal will take place online and digital credentials will be needed to register SPID, CIE or CNS. According to the most recent versions of the text, the recognition procedure should be activated by the assisted person (or by someone who legally represents them, such as a guardian or a support administrator), and not directly by the caregiver. It will be necessary to attach a self-declaration and written acceptance from each indicated caregiver. At the end of the checks, within 30 days, INPS will issue a certificate with the recognized qualification.
Who can register: the requirements
Not all caregivers will be able to access the future economic bonus. The bill, still under discussion in the Chamber, reserves financial protection for those who take care, in cohabitation, of a family member with a very serious disability and holder of an accompanying allowance. It will also be necessary to fall within two economic limits: a personal income not exceeding 3 thousand euros gross per year e a ISEE of the family unit within i 15 thousand euros. These are rather stringent limits, designed to concentrate resources on the situations of greatest need.
Caregiver bonus: amounts and when the first payments will arrive
The economic contribution linked to the recognition will not start together with the platform. The planned path is divided into several phases. TO September 2026 The opening of the platform and registration to obtain the qualification of family caregiver is planned. TO end 2026 Actual applications for financial support are now underway, which can be submitted online or through a patronage. And in 2027 the first payments should arrive, with amounts that according to current estimates could reach up to 400 euros per month for families with the lowest economic requirements, paid quarterly.
Attention: the DDL is not yet law
At the moment it is a “paper” program. The bill on caregivers, presented by the Minister for Disabilities Alessandra Locatelli and approved by the Council of Ministers in January 2026, is still under examination. The definitive approval of Parliament and, then, the implementing decrees of the competent ministries are still missing. This means that the deadlines indicated, starting from that of 30 September for the INPS platform, could be delayed, also due to the summer break in parliamentary work. It is therefore advisable to keep an eye on the official updates on the INPS website and on that of the Ministry for Disabilities.
