The Spaniard knocked out due to wrist pain. Jannik works on his kick serve, his serve and his physical resistance towards his main goal: winning at Roland Garros
Carlos Alcaraz was forced to withdraw from the Barcelona tournament. The Spanish tennis player who was beaten last Sunday by Sinner in the Monte Carlo final announced it in the press conference: “In the match against Virtanen I felt some discomfort in my wrist – he explained -. After the physio operation I felt better but the pain increased as I played. We did some tests and saw that the issue is a little more serious than expected and therefore I have to leave this tournament which for me is beautiful and means a lot”. For the Spaniard there is therefore no longer the possibility of returning to being number one in the world, which would have happened in the event of victory in the ATP 1000 in Barcelona. Jannik Sinner will therefore remain number one in the world at least until the Internazionali in Rome, which will take place at the Foro Italico from 5 to 17 May.
Sinner plays in Madrid?
Meanwhile Jannik Sinner is taking a few days of rest in Monte Carlo, after the victory in the Monegasque tournament. The South Tyrolean tennis player has not yet resolved the doubts about his presence at the ATP 1000 tournament in Madrid, in which, if successful, he would achieve a feat never achieved by any tennis player: winning four ATP 1000 tournaments consecutively. The fact of playing at altitude and the surface of the Caja Magica in Madrid (much faster than others on red clay) could push Jannik to take the field in the tournament in the Spanish capital, for which he is registered anyway. The doubts concern the fact that the Madrid tournament includes an evening session which could tire our champion. Madrid or not Sinner will work in view of Rome and Paris trying to improve in the kick serve and in the dumps. But another important aspect that will be taken care of is that of resistenceseeing as in Paris the best of three sets out of five will be played and there is the risk of finding ourselves playing a marathon like last year’s final between Sinner and Alcaraz which lasted almost five and a half hours.
