The rapper falls into an online trap over an alleged sick child. Once the deception was discovered, he reported everything, but controversy broke out on social media
A gesture of solidarity turned into a media nightmare. Emis Killa, convinced he was helping a seriously ill little girl, had joined a fundraiser that turned out to be a fraud. The scene, moving and apparently authentic, had pushed him to donate without hesitation. But some suspicious details led him to ask GoFundMe directly for verification. The answer left no doubt: the account was linked to multiple fraudulent collections, all of which were deleted en masse. To reassure him, the confirmation of the reimbursement of the donated sums also arrived, extended to all the benefactors who fell into the same deception.
Emis Killa’s outburst
Struck by the incident, the artist chose to tell everything on social media. Not to boast of his gesture, but to warn those who, like him, risk falling into the trap of those who speculate on pain. “People who exploit these stories to steal money from those with good hearts should disappear not only from social media, but from the face of the earth,” he thundered in his Instagram stories. Then the appeal: if someone really knew the little girl in the video or her family, he would be ready to help them concretely, with a direct and transparent donation.
Criticisms and accusations
The story, however, sparked a barrage of accusations. There are those who accused him of using the affair to show off and gain visibility. A narrative that the rapper forcefully rejected: «The point was not my charity, which I have always done in private. It was to point out that there are infamous people who continue to collect money using the images of a little girl who, unfortunately, has also passed away.” Emis Killa recalled that until then no one knew anything about his donation: «I do things on my own. But if I discover such a scam, I feel it is my duty to warn others.”
A divisive complaint
The case has reopened the debate on the relationship between public figures, charity and communication. Emis Killa’s complaint made it possible to unmask a fraudulent system and to return the money to those who had been deceived, but at the same time it sparked a controversy that highlights how fragile the boundary is between civil commitment and suspicion of self-promotion. For the rapper, one certainty remains: do not remain silent in front of those who speculate on good faith, even at the cost of exposing yourself to criticism.
