Inflation adjustment of 1.4% on INPS contributions: increases of a few euros more per year, new amounts from January, first deadline in April and goodbye to paper bulletins
The cost of domestic work for Italian families is increasing, albeit slightly. For housekeepers, carers and babysitters, social security contributions are updated, adjusted to the inflation recorded by Istat. The increase, of 1.4%, sets the new hourly amounts valid starting from January 1st. A revision that does not change the rules, but which impacts family budgets and introduces an important operational innovation: the definitive farewell to paper bulletins.
Maids, carers and babysitters: why contributions are increasing in 2026 and how much more they cost
The adjustment of contributions for housekeepers, carers and babysitters is an automatic consequence of the inflation indexation mechanism. This averages about three cents an hour. In concrete terms, according to estimates, a family that hires a caregiver for 24 hours a week on a permanent contract will spend just over 35 euros more per year compared to 2025. For permanent employment relationships under 25 hours per week three contribution bands remain, linked to the actual hourly salary. Up to 9.61 euros per hour the total contribution rises to 1.70 euros; between 9.61 and 11.70 euros it reaches 1.92 euros; beyond this threshold it reaches 2.34 euros. For those who work at least 25 hours a week, however, the contribution becomes single and fixed, equal to 1.24 euros per hour.
Also fixed-term contracts they follow the same banded scheme for those who work less than 25 hours per week, with slightly higher amounts due to the additional contribution required by law. However, the Cassacolf contractual assistance contribution remains unchanged and continues to be paid via PagoPA with a dedicated code.
How the calculation and payments of domestic contributions work
The contribution system for domestic work is different from that of other employees. Contributions are not calculated on the total monthly salary, but on conventional hourly values established by INPS. When the weekly working time does not exceed 24 hours, the amount depends on the agreed salary and upon reaching 25 hours per week, however, the contribution becomes fixed and independent of the salary.
The rates are lower overall than traditional employed work, but they cover various fundamental protections: pension, maternity, unemployment, family allowances when due, as well as insurance against accidents and occupational diseases. The calculation also includes the thirteenth month’s salary and any allowance for food and accommodation, as well as paid absences for holidays, holidays and illness.
Deadlines to be respected and online-only payments: what changes in 2026 for families with housekeepers, babysitters and carers
Contributions for housekeepers, carers and babysitters continue to be paid every three months. The first deadline is April 10, 2026. The contributions for January, February and March must be paid by this date, already applying the new updated amounts. In the event of termination of the employment relationship, payment must be made within ten days of the end of the contract.
The big news for 2026, however, concerns payment methods. From January 1st the procedure became exclusively digital: INPS no longer sends paper bulletins by post. Employers must access the INPS payment portal, print PagoPA notices, pay online at any time and keep the electronic receipt. There is a transitional phase only for employers over 76 years of age, who will continue to receive paper PagoPAs throughout the year, to accompany the adaptation to the new system. For everyone else from now on everything will be digital only.
