Cousin Cappa, Garlasco and those secrets never clarified

As a media protagonists in 2007 to new voices in 2024: who are Paola and Stefania Cappa, the cousins of Chiara Poggi returned to the center of the Garlasco case

The Garlasco case, the cousins Cappa and the return of chaos: silences, ambitions and new revelations

They seemed to have disappeared from the scene, the cousins Cappa. After years of silence, their image returns overbearing, dragging voices, suspicions and phrases never forgotten. Stefania, the most fragile, evoked by a witness as a upset and with a bag in his hands on the day of the crime. Paola, the most impetuous, protagonist of vocal messages in which it evokes millions in exchange for truth and insult press and magistrates with bright tones.

Their role in this story has always been ambiguous, of the border. They have never been formally investigated, yet their name re -emerges at regular intervals, like an echo. First they were the cousins of the victim, then the key witnesses, then marginal appearances. And now, again, in the center. Among those who remember them to seek attention in the midst of the media clamor, with flashy looks and sharp declarations, and those who today listen to them in the recordings spread with a completely different voice and tone, perhaps matured by the weight of the years and secrets.

Yesterday, after 18 years, their shadow returned more concrete than ever. Not for an official investigation, but for the words of “Carlo”, the witness who tells of pressure received, suspicious encounters and a woman from Tromello who saw Stefania agitated, never seen before in that house. Not a wing, as reported elsewhere, but something heavy thrown into a ditch. Weak clues? Perhaps. But capable of reopening old wounds and old questions.

Paola and Stefania Cappa, first degree cousin of Chiara Poggi, are daughters of Mariarosa Poggi, sister of Chiara’s father. At the time of the crime, in the summer of 2007, they were just over eighteen. Stefania continued her studies in law, she graduated and today she works as a lawyer in the family studio, Cappa & Partners, founded in 2014 by his father Ermanno Cappa. In 2017, he married Emanuele Arioldi, son of “Annina” Rizzoli and the riding champion Roberto Arioldi. Paola, on the other hand, has embarked on a career in the world of digital communication, becoming food bloggers and living between Milan and Ibiza.

In 2007, their media presence was remarkable: they created a photomontage with Chiara, posted on the gate of the Poggi house, and released several interviews. However, over time, they moved away from the spotlight. Recently, new investigations have brought to light elements that indirectly involve them: a supertestimone reported that she saw Stefania agitated with a bag on the day of the crime, while Paola’s vocal messages suggest the possibility of future revelations in exchange for money.

Other recent news

The investigations on the crime of Garlasco recently brought new elements to light. The Pavia prosecutor has acquired a series of SMS messages sent years ago by Paola Cappa to a friend of his Milan. Among these, one in particular referred to Alberto Stasi would emerge. In addition, a tromello channel was dragged, near the house where the grandmother of Chiara’s cousin, the twins Stefania and Paola, lived. The investigators found several objects, including a hammer.

To complicate everything, the absence of Andrea Semplio to the interrogations in the prosecutor and the unpublished calls of the mother who speak of silent truths, of family disputes never told, of a country that – still today – does not really believe in Alberto Stasi’s guilt. Meanwhile, Paola Cappa’s audio flow: “I want to be paid for millions … but I will say everything”. An echo that sounds more like a warning than like a confession.

Garlasco today is trapped again in a story that does not want to end.
