eighteen years ago the nerdiest sitcom landed in Italy

On January 19, 2008, the TV series starring Elon Musk, Bill Gates and Stephen Hawking arrived in Italy.

Los Angeles, 2006. A then virtually unknown Jim Parson auditions for a new television series. The title is not yet well defined; must interpret a classic nerd to support the protagonist. Tall, elegant and good-looking, he doesn’t seem to be the ideal candidate, but as soon as he gets into character, he dispels any doubts. He’s perfect and will be perfect for that partwho from a sidekick immediately becomes the protagonist. Because it is an undisputed symbol of “The Big Bang Theory” it can only be him: Sheldon Cooper.

The first episode of this iconic series landed in Italy exactly eighteen years ago.

the name of the scientist with extraordinary intelligence, but with evident relationship problems (which among other things, do not seem to affect him in the slightest), will soon be associated with that of three other scientists, Leonard, Howard and Rajesh, and three Penny girls first and foremost, Amy and Bernadette.

Each with their own peculiarities, with an experience from which stories and above all brilliant and irreverent jokes unfold; they don’t practice political correctness, in fact, they probably don’t even know how to identify it.

Seven guys who will upset each other’s existence, and will also upset it a little for all those fans and viewers who have learned to love them, because the protagonists of The Big Bang Theory they have undoubtedly become their friends.

Thanks to “TBBT” we discovered the various aspects of physics, got to know Schrödinger’s cat, tried in vain to understand “String Theory”, we became experts in comics, Star War, Star Trek (and beware of confusing them!), and we learned the lullaby “Soft Kitty” by heart.

“The Big Bang Theory” it was the most applauded and praised series of its era, winning, in twelve seasons, everything that could be won: Emmy (of which Jim Parson holds the record), Golden Globe and other various “Awards”.

A series so loved that many characters participated by playing themselves: like this Elon Musk washes dishes for the homeless on ThanksgivingSir James Earl Jones plays the doorbell prank on Carrie Fisher. Mark Richard (Luke Skywalker) officiates Sheldon and Amy’s wedding, Adam West brings Batman back to life, William Shatner and Joe Manganiello compete on “D&D”, the latter trying to escape the insistent and awkward advances of Amy Farrah Fowler.

Above all, we discovered an extraordinary Stephen Hawking, capable of demonstrating disarming self-irony.

Twelve seasons in which this Sit-Com gave us unrepeatable pearls of television comedy and an intoxicating finalemade possible by its two clever creators Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady.

After all, from the producers of Dharma and Greg And Pappa e Ciccia (original title Roseanne) couldn’t have expected anything less.
