Garlasco, which side is public opinion on: all the television “fans”.

The Garlasco case, over the years, has created factions not only among ordinary people, but also within television broadcasts. Here are the ones

The bar chatter surrounding the Garlasco crime is as timeless as it gets. More institutional, however, are the television programs which have the murder of Chiara Poggi as one of their strong points. And it is impossible, in the complexity of such a case, with its infinite subplots, protagonists and extras, certainties (few) and doubts (many), that very precise public opinions are not formed.

And, going beyond public opinions, more or less precise supporters. Just like in bar chatter, there are those who side with «Alberto Stasi free”, unjustly convicted without proof beyond a reasonable doubt. The guaranteeists believe that even the clues on Andrea Sempioinvestigated for complicity in murder, are completely insufficient to determine a guilty verdict. Then there are those who are less guaranteed, who see Stasi or Sempio as the murderers. It’s like that in the bar and it’s like that on television. Among the latter, among the most “Garlasque” it is necessary to mention Morning Fivehosted by Federica Panicucci and Francesco Vecchi; FarWesthosted by Salvo Sottile; The State of Thingshosted by Massimo Giletti; Fourth Degreehosted by Gianluigi Nuzzi, supported by Alessandra Viero; White Zonehosted by Giuseppe Brindisi; The Hyenashosted by Veronica Gentili and Max Angioni.

The fans of television broadcasts

In general, a guaranteeist line prevails. And it couldn’t be otherwise, because when it comes to justice the risk of going too far is always around the corner. We cannot enter into premature public-media sentences in the absence of incontrovertible evidence, and above all before there has even been a trial or a review of previous trials. No, when talking about Garlasco, we must proceed with extreme caution. And so do the programs and their hosts, trying to maintain as much impartiality as possible. Overall, in any case, it is believed that Stasi was unjustly convicted (there was no reasonable doubt) and that the evidence on Sempio, similarly, is not sufficient. In short, that a culprit must necessarily be found even when there is no reason to do so.

The clash between Giletti and Garofano

Sometimes, it has resulted in over the top debates, by “fans” indeed, as in the case of the recent episode of The State of Thingson April 13, 2026, with a furious back and forth between Massimo Giletti and Luciano Garofano. The former commander of the Parma RIS had recalled the detail of the folding door inside the Poggi house, carefully explaining the technical operations carried out: «That door was analyzed with white lights, with forensic lights, it was tested to verify the presence of blood, then it was treated to highlight the papillary prints. Then it was transferred to the laboratory to be able to proceed with another analysis, one which involves treatment with starch black which allows the identification of blood or forms of fingerprints or traces of blood origin.”

Giletti had insisted, until Garofano had lost patience. At that point, the host justified himself: «I’m interrupting you because I’m a soldier. But I don’t care about grades. I’m asking questions that you won’t answer. I would have analyzed the entire door. If we are here after 20 years, I think the investigations were done with feet». The general finally replied laconically: «But what do ranks have to do with it? You, as was the case in the previous episode, evidently want to provoke me: you don’t deserve a response.”

A clear example of how the fans, despite the institutionality that television broadcasts should maintain (and in most cases maintain), have also infected the noble circles of information. A cross-section of Italian society which, becoming passionate about the Garlasco crime, took the side of one or the other character, enraged by all the errors and carelessness of the many years of investigations. Waiting for yet another trial.
