Goggia mocked by Blanc in Super-G But the real Sofia returned to Crans

Second place for the Bergamo girl and fourth for Melesi. Great opportunity wasted by Pirovano who goes out at the last door before the finish line when she was first. Brignone behind in speed

We see each other again the real Sofia Goggia in the Crans Montana super-Glast stage before the free climb on Sunday 8 February on the Olympia delle Tofane in Cortina which will put the Olympic gold up for grabs. The Bergamo girl returns to very high levels and leads the race until she drops the very young Swiss Melori Blanc who defrauds Sofia for just 18 cents. But 8 days before the Olympic competition the feelings are very positive for Sofia even if the lack of success leaves a very bitter taste in her mouth.

Blue bad luck

It wasn’t a lucky day for the Italian girls who demonstrated all their value in this super-G too. Roberta Melesi in fact she was forced to come down from the lowest step of the podium when she was already sure of third place. Instead, the American Breeze Johnson, who started with the number 29, obtained the third time, thus ousting the Italian from the podium. Even more incredible what happened to Laura Pirovano. Wearing number 20, the Trentino athlete was one step away from obtaining the first victory of her career but a mistake before the last gate eliminated her from the race one step away from the finish line.

Brignone disappointed

There was also great anticipation for the return of Federica Brignone in a speed race. After the excellent sixth place in the GI, Brignone had to give up Friday’s free run in Crans due to the cancellation of the race and showed up at the starting gate of the Super-G with bib number 9. The “Lassalle tiger” set an excellent intermediate time, but then made a mistake, went into rotation risking going out and finished 1’28” from the winner. Brignone did not hide her disappointment with her performance: “I had some pretty bad feelings – comments Federica to the Rai microphones -. The race didn’t turn out the way I wanted. I’m not yet competitive in speed. One step at a time? Yes, but there’s no time.” Crans was the last stage of the World Cup before the Olympics. Now the Italian girls will move to Cortina where the timed downhill race is scheduled for 5 February in view of the Olympic race to be held on Sunday 8 February on the Olympia delle Tofane.
