The Olympic and Paralympic torches of the winter games of Milan Cortina 2026 were revealed. The two symbols, baptized “Essential” for the minimalist style that distinguishes them, were presented simultaneously at the Milan Triennale and at the Expo 2025 in Osaka. The torches represent not only the Olympic and Paralympic flame, but also the founding values of sport: unity, hope and determination.
In Milan, the event saw the participation of two icons of Italian sport: Stefania Belmondo, an Olympic legend of cross -country skiing, and Bebe Vio, a symbol of strength and inclusion. In Osaka, Carolina Kostner, an artistic skating star, and Martina Caironi, Paralympic champion, made Madrine.
Made by Eni in collaboration with Versalis and designed by the Carlo Ratti Associati studio, the torches are the result of a combination of cutting -edge Italian design and technology. Cavagna Group dealt with engineering and production, guaranteeing lightness, resistance and sustainability.
Design, materials and sustainability
The torches are entirely made in Italy and weigh about 1,060 grams (excluding cylinder). They are composed of a recycled aluminum and brass alloy, and can be reused up to 10 times. The burner is powered by Bio-Gpl produced in the Enilive Bioraffineria di Gela, 100% from renewable sources such as exhausted oils and food waste.
The handle is made with XL Extraight®, an ultralight material produced by Finproject (Versalis), obtained with 60% of Bionafta from renewable sources. The exterior PVD finish (Physical Vapour Deposito) amplifies its resistance and the iridescent shades, adapting to environmental light.
Symbolic colors and cultural value
The Olympic torch has green and blue shades, inspired by the Italian skies in constant change, while the Paralympic one is colored with bronze and recalls the inner strength of the athletes. Both will be exhibited at the Italian pavilion of the Expo in Osaka and at the Milan Triennale from May 2025 until the end of the games.
At the end of the Olympics, the Olympic torch will become part of the permanent collection of the Olympic Museum of Lausanne, leaving a legacy of design and sustainability.
The torches of Milan Cortina 2026 are not simple objects: they represent the flame that unites, inspires and celebrates diversity. Custodians of timeless values, embody the identity of a country and its commitment to a more inclusive and sustainable future.
