High tension over the truce after the attack in Tel Aviv

Four people were injured on Tuesday evening when a terrorist carried out a series of stabbings in a trendy Tel Aviv neighborhood, emergency services and Israeli police said, before he was shot dead. The attacker’s name was Abdelaziz Kaddi Moroccan citizen, holder of a U.S. green card, according to an identification document found on his body. He was shot dead at the crime scene. It was the second terrorist stabbing in three days in the Israeli city. The ambulance service Magen David Adom (MDA) reported that four people were injured during the attack in Nahalat Binyamin. The victims include two men, aged 24 and 28, who are in moderate condition, and two others, aged 24 and 59 respectively, in good condition, the MDA said. Kaddi reportedly entered Israel on January 18 on a tourist visa.

The Minister of the Interior Moshe Arbel said immigration officers had identified Kaddi as a threat when he arrived in the country at the airport Ben Gurion and they tried to prevent him from entering. He was handed over to security officials for questioning: “To my regret, they decided to allow him entry into Israel and I asked Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar to investigate the incident,” Arbel said in a statement. The domestic intelligence agency confirmed shortly thereafter that it had done so: «After the subject’s entry into Israel, he underwent a security assessment that included his interrogation and further checks, at the end of which it was decided that there was no information that would constitute grounds for barring him from entering Israel for security reasons,” Lo said Shin Bet in response to a question. The attack came three days after a man in his 30s was seriously injured in another terrorist stabbing in Tel Aviv. This victim was also transported to Ichilov Hospital, where doctors later declared that his condition was stable and that there was no danger to his life. The person responsible for the attack was identified as Salah Yahye, 19, originally from Tulkarem, a city in the West Bank. According to defense sources, he was in Israel illegally. Doctors confirmed that Yahye was killed on the spot.

Mysterious murder of a senior Hezbollah official

Mystery however regarding the sheikh Mohammed Hammadia senior official of Hezbollah who was shot dead last night by unknown assailants in the western Beqaa district of the country, on the border with Syria. This was reported by the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, affiliated with Hezbollah. An anonymous source said unidentified gunmen traveling in two vehicles opened fire on Sheikh Mohammed Hammadi as he stood outside his home in the eastern city of Machghara. According to the Lebanese press, Hammadi suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to a hospital in the nearby city of Sohmor. Shortly afterwards he succumbed to his wounds and was declared dead. Lebanese army units, in response, quickly isolated Machghara and set up fixed and mobile checkpoints in all towns of the western Beqaa. They also launched a large-scale manhunt for the attackers.

The killing occurred just days after an initial 60-day ceasefire agreement expired Israel And Hezbollah. Under the terms of the agreement signed at the end of November, Israel has until January 26 to complete its withdrawal from southern Lebanon. At the same time, Hezbollah must move its forces north of the river Litani. About 170 kilometers long, the Litani River crosses Lebanon from west to east, following a path parallel to the Blue Linethe virtual border that separates the Land of Cedars from Israel. This line is monitored by military forces United Nationswhich include an Italian contingent of approximately 1,100 soldiers. The distance of the Litani from the Blue Line varies: in the central sector it reaches a maximum of 28 kilometers, while in the far eastern sector it is reduced to just 6 kilometers. The Litani River has acquired increasingly strategic importance in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Lebanon, representing a key point on both a geographical and military level.

At the end of the 60 days, the military presence between Israel and Litani will be limited exclusively to the Lebanese Armed Forces and theUNIFIL. However, reports from Israel indicate that the deadline may be extended, apparently due to the slowness of the Lebanese army to fully deploy in the area. The ceasefire brokered by United States And France in late November it was reached two months after Israel significantly intensified military operations in Lebanon. The main objective of this offensive was to stop Hezbollah’s persistent rocket fire, an escalation that had displaced some 60,000 residents of northern Israel. Israel’s intense military campaign in Lebanon has inflicted serious losses on Hezbollah’s leaders, causing a drastic reduction in the capabilities of the Shiite terrorist group directly emanating from Iran.
