Holidays between nature and culture (and a lot of wine)

Between modernity and tradition, Stuttgart is the perfect destination for a seasonal escape. And from August 21, red wines, whites and bubbles invade the center

Perhaps the most “Italian” of the German cities, a pioneering city, cultural center, lively metropolis: this is Stuttgart, Capital of Baden-Württembergin the southwest of Germany. Known for his inventive genius, the vocation to experimentation and, at the same time, for his parties and celebrations: the futuristic news go hand in hand with the great masterpieces, and the places of culture alternate with vine rows. A stone’s throw from the city, you can get lost in the paths of the legendary and beloved Black forest. For art lovers, there is the Stuttgart Stuttgart Statsgalerie: one of the most important art museums in Germany, famous for its extraordinary collection that embraces from the Middle Ages to contemporary art. It is hosted in a historic building flanked by the audacious postmodern expansion of James Stirling, houses masterpieces of masters such as Rembrandt, Rubens and Tiepolo, alongside an exceptional collection of modern art with Picasso, Matisse, Kandinsky And Beckmann. There is also a highly appreciated section dedicated to German Expressionism and the art of the twentieth century.

Symbol of the city is the Tower of television (Fernsehturm Stuttgart), the first never built in the world: inaugurated 65 years ago, it is an excellent panoramic point to embrace the metropolis and its region with a glance. A sumptuous avenue of Castagni instead leads to the suggestive Castle solitude, in Rococo stylethat Duke Carlo Eugenio built between 1763 and 1769 “away from the confusion and disappointments of the world”. From this castle designed for hunting and with representative function there is a splendid view of the city-stay of Ludwigsburg.

The black forest, or Schwarzwaldis one of the most fascinating regions of Germany, famous for its mountain landscapes, dense woods, fairytale villages and craft traditions. A few hours after Stuttgart, it is the ideal destination for those looking for uncontaminated nature, hiking paths and breathtaking views in every season. Between waterfalls, spas and typical farms, you can discover locations such as Triberg, Baden-Baden and Titisee. Reaching the black forest from Stuttgart is simple: less than two hours of the highway are enough.

Just north of Stuttgart is located Ludwigsburga baroque city and former royal residence of the dukes and kings of Württemberg. The Ludwigsburg building is the largest baroque complex existing in Germany and is located in a park of about 30 hectares, with its wonderful gardens. At the east of Stuttgart, on the banks of the Neckar river, it is found instead ESL -SEGENena medieval city rich in history. The city has evolved in a period of over a thousand years, and this is reflected in the historic center with its three municipalities, the oldest row of grateful buildings in Germany and its splendid patrician houses. For over 700 years, the Esslingen Castle has dominated this magnificent historical city.

Every summer, Stuttgart pays homage to its wine tradition with the event Wine village (Stuttgarter Weindorf) (August 21 – September 6, 2025). In the central Marktplatz, Schillerplatz and Kirchstraße, wooden chalet decorated with screw leaves alternate with more modern lounges and design touches, where visitors can taste beyond 500 different wines of Stuttgart and its region, from dry or fruity whites, to the lively red and character. In several chalets, in addition to trying local wines, you can have dinner and lunch with traditional dishes, or recipes with a more international imprint.
