“HomeRUN” tells the story of the K-pop group’s new identity

NOWZ chose the perfect time to strike. And not just in a metaphorical sense. With the 3rd Single Play Ball and the title track “HomeRUN”have officially inaugurated their new season: the one in which we no longer look in the mirror and ask ourselves “who will we become?”, but take to the field already knowing the answer. Because after months of adjustment, of rebranding, of silent growth, this comeback comes as a statement: NOWZ are no longer the guys from the debut, they are a team that plays to win. And they do it with a rare clarity for a group that, until a few months ago, was still looking for its own name.

The passage through the 1st Mini Album IGNITION had already turned on the lights: a starting point, a declaration of identity, that moment in which a group decides to stop being “promise” and begins to be “presence”. IGNITION it had been the engine. Play Ball it’s the gear lever that snaps forward. AND HomeRUN it’s the trajectory: decisive, clean, without hesitation. It’s the sound of someone who no longer wants to prove they’re ready: they want to prove they’re determined.

Musically, “HomeRUN” brings exactly that narrative tension that defines NOWZ today. It’s an EDM-dance track built like a race on the bases: intro that takes its position, drops that click with the precision of a green light, rap that takes a breath only to start again, a vocal line that looks up like someone who has already seen where he’s about to arrive. Everything is calibrated to convey movement: drive, effort, ambition, and above all self-confidence. A confidence that is not arrogance, but awareness. The awareness of a group that has understood that growth is not a concept theme: it is a daily practice.

And it is precisely here that their transformation is best seen. HYEONBIN, YOON, YEONWOO, JINHYUK and SIYUN they seem to have found a cohesion that cannot be built on paper. It’s the one that arises when you stop being five individuals and start being a single trajectory. The sporting metaphor is not a visual costume: it is their way of telling the story. The mistake as a starting point. The missed base as a lesson. Running as the only possible horizon. Winning is never an individual act: it is always an act of synchronization.

The result is a comeback that doesn’t try to imitate anyone and doesn’t rely on formulas already seen. NOWZ chose the most difficult narrative: that of evolution. And in the midst of an industry that changes every three weeks, they have decided not to change just to keep up, but to go in the direction that represents them. Play Ball it’s an invitation. HomeRUN is the answer. An answer that doesn’t want to convince everyone: it wants to be heard by those who are ready to follow them into their new playing field.

And today, meeting them, the feeling is that this answer is just beginning. That the race hasn’t reached the most interesting corner yet. That the real swing is yet to come.

Panorama spoke exclusively with them.

(Play Ball) turns your journey into something resembling a baseball game — full of pressure, teamwork and twists and turns. What does winning mean to NOWZ as a team today?
HYEONBIN: We are grateful for every step and every milestone along the way, but our big dream now is to get our first music show win. We haven’t had that moment yet, so winning that trophy together would be a huge win for us!
YEONWOO: For me, winning doesn’t always mean achieving something great. Even becoming just a little better than yesterday is a significant victory. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing yourself grow and surpass the previous version of you.

“HomeRUN” has a bold drop and fearless rapping — it sounds like pure confidence. When did you realize you were ready to take a sonic risk of this type?
JINHYUK: The thing that struck me the most was the sound, because it was something we had never tried before. I had to approach my parts differently, especially in the construction of rap and lyrics, and experiencing that kind of style with my voice left a strong impression on me.
SIYUN: The powerful, deep bass was truly unforgettable, especially listening to it with large speakers. You can feel the depth and weight of the sound filling the space, and experiencing that impact in the studio alongside my rapping made the track even more exciting and immersive.

The lyrics talk about turning uncertainty into possibility. What was the last time you faced real uncertainty — and turned it into a success?
YOON: In fact, this concept was quite a transformative experience for me. The song has a very bold energy, so I tried to portray a stronger image than usual. At first everything felt new and I lost some confidence, but as I kept reminding myself that I wanted to show a new side of me, I found it again and felt much more confident.
YEONWOO: Honestly, I believe that every day is an exercise in turning uncertainty into possibility. There is no definitive answer as to how I should live today, where I should go, or what my goals should be. And precisely because there is no single right answer, life is exciting: there are infinite paths, and each can lead to something significant.

Baseball is about team dynamics. If NOWZ were really on the pitch, who would be the one capable of lifting the team’s mood with unexpected energy?
HYEONBIN: I believe our youngest members, JINHYUK and SIYUN, would naturally take on that role. They are full of energy and love sport, so even in times when everyone starts to feel tired, they would be the ones to bring back enthusiasm and lift the spirit of the team.
JINHYUK: I can really imagine SIYUN, in a decisive moment, hitting a huge home run and changing the atmosphere instantly. He has that spark that, at the right time, brings everyone together and makes the energy rise immediately.

“HomeRUN” feels like an evolution — louder in sound, deeper in emotion. What did you want listeners to understand about you through this track that they perhaps hadn’t seen yet?
YEONWOO: We wanted to send a message about getting back up even when things get tough. There are challenges and moments of doubt, but I believe there are things we can only do now and opportunities that only exist in this moment. For this reason, instead of holding back, we want to show ourselves by truly giving everything, without regrets. This determination to push higher and higher is the heart of the song.
SIYUN: With this song we really wanted to convey an explosion of energy through faster choreography and greater intensity. Our passion is on another level this time, and I hope the audience can feel that fiery drive and confidence we put into every movement and every note.

Your performances are full of intensity. What emotion do you want the audience to feel when watching you?
YOON: I hope that by looking at us, people can feel an energy that lifts them, especially after a long and tiring day. If our performance can recharge someone even just a little and make them feel something positive, it makes me really happy.
JINHYUK: I would like people to think, “This group is really talented. I hope they become even more popular.” Hearing a reaction like that would mean a lot to us, because it shows that the effort and passion we put into every performance is recognized.

If Play Ball if it were an image – a shot capable of defining its energy – what would it be?
HYEONBIN: I imagine the moment you hit a home run. The sound of the bat, the ball rising high, the crowd rising, and that moment when time seems to stop before the stadium explodes. That adrenaline is exactly the energy of the song.
YEONWOO: For me it would be like powerful waves in the ocean. They rise, swell and crash relentlessly, always moving forcefully. That image of continuous energy immediately comes to mind why Play Ball it is equally dynamic, intense and alive.

Did the members personally participate in any part of this comeback? Tell us about that experience.
JINHYUK: This time we were also very involved in the choreography, sharing many ideas to shape the performance in our own way. We also tried to participate in the writing of the lyrics as much as possible. Being able to reflect more of ourselves in both the performance and the music was meaningful and allowed us to more clearly express our determination and identity as NOWZ.
SIYUN: I participated in the writing and composition of both the title track and the B-side. I wanted to capture our ambition and our spirit, like a hard-hit ball flying forward, just like a home run. Working on the songs made me feel even more connected to this comeback: it was a very motivating experience.

Fans often say that your energy on stage seems authentic, not “acted”. What’s the secret to maintaining this real connection during such intense promotions?
YOON: I always try to keep my energy high, because I really want to empower the audience and our fans. This thought alone motivates me to stay positive and perform with energy every time we go on stage.
YEONWOO: I believe it is possible thanks to the fans who are there to support us. Even when we are tired, their support gives us the strength to take one step further. Knowing that they believe in us pushes us to always give our best.

If you could invite fans to play on your team for a day — not just cheer, but actually be on the field — what role would they play?
HYEONBIN: I think they would be our cheer squad, and I would work even harder on the field because of their support. Their encouragement would push me to give everything.
SIYUN: I, on the other hand, would like to take on the role of cheerleader and watch the fans play like players. It would be so fun to support them and see how they would experience camp from our perspective!

Is there a gesture, a word or a memory from fans that gave you strength during this comeback — something you still think about before going on stage?
HYEONBIN: Hearing fans say “You’re at your best when you’re on stage” always motivates me. It makes me want to improve my performance even more.
YOON: When fans tell us that they can’t wait to see us and that they love NOWZ especially on stage, it really gives me so much strength and makes me prepare even harder.
YEONWOO: A fan once told us: “You are so happy on stage that I hope you can continue performing for a long time.” Those words stayed with me and gave me great energy.
JINHYUK: Before going on stage I always think about the encouraging messages fans leave me at fansigns. Remembering their words always gives me the energy to do my best.
SIYUN: The comment I remember most is: “I will stay by your side and support you until you make your dreams come true.” It touched me deeply and continues to inspire me.

Beyond chart success, what would a true home run look like for NOWZ in the future — musically and personally?
YOON: The moment we received our first award at an end-of-year ceremony was a real home run for me. It was a dream I had for a long time, and seeing it come true made me incredibly happy.
JINHYUK: I felt like we hit a home run when we released our album IGNITION. We invested so much effort and passion into that work, and sharing it with the world was a huge achievement for us.
