how it works and what changes in the event of an accident

From the old paper module to the via Smartphone module: less paper, plus speed and fight against fraud. But will we really save on the ARC car?

From the Blue and Yellow Module to the Via Smartphone declaration. The CID, the model for friendly observation when making a road accident arrives in an electronic version. It is called CAI digital (friendly ascertainment of accident) and is completed online. Everyone agrees that it will do well to the fight against fraud and the environment, but there are doubts about the effects on the car RC costs. The module is used every year for 1.5 million claims, but what changes concretely for motorists?

What is the friendly digital observation and since it is available

Digital CAI is the electronic version of the CID is completed online, via app or website of its insurance company and has the same legal value as the paper model. It has been active from 13 May for the insurances that have already adequate, while for all the others the obligation from April 7, 2026 takes place. But even after this date the old paper blue module will remain valid, so you can continue to choose whether to use the old model or rely on technology. For now you can only call your company and know if the CAI is already available.

How it works and how digital CAI is compiled

To fill in the friendly digital observation, just access the portal or app of your insurance company, authenticate with Spid or electronic identity card and start entering the data on the accident: date, time, visible damage, any witnesses, dynamics of the accident (also through guided selections and additional descriptions). It is also possible to attach photographs. The signature, of both drivers involved in the accident, must be digital. Done everything you click send. The insurance company receives it in real time and so can start the practice immediately. The whole process lasts a few minutes and can be performed directly on the accident site via Smartphone.

Digital CAI: faster times, but does not change much for the timing of the compensation

For motorists the most immediate benefit of the transition to digital is certainly the reduction of bureaucratic times. No phone calls, emails, errors of transcriptions, documents to scan. The information on the left necessary comes in real time to the insurance. This also allows you to accelerate the opening of the practice. But the timing of compensation do not radically change. Technical expertise, assessment of responsibilities, formulation of the offer and liquidation are not automated with the arrival of digital CAI, especially in the most complex claims. So for the phase following sending the times should not undergo positive changes, but to remain the same.

Digital friendly observation: positive effects on the environment and in the fight against fraud

The fraud should be braked, thanks to the digital module. In 2024 about 1.5 million Italians declared that they had been victims of scams in the insurance field: false false or swollen or inflated etc. (investigation by Facile.it and non -profit consumerism). The digital CAI thanks to the standardized structure of the data and the possibility of crossing the declarations of both drivers in real time, it can be a very powerful tool to counter fraud. In addition, the digital collection of information allows companies to use advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence, to identify anomalies, discrepancies and suspicious models. So more effective anti -flap controls.
The transition to digital is certainly then good news for the environment. For each accident, four self -popular chemical sheets disappear from the circulation, therefore 6 million sheets per year, with a positive impact on paper consumption and waste production.

Will digital Cai save on the car RC policies?

Everyone’s demand is: will there be economic effects favorable to car car RC rates? The answer, for now, is: it depends. In the long run, digitization will be able to reduce management costs for companies, thanks to more streamlined and less errors processes. And this could translate into a containment of the prizes for motorists. But in the short term companies will have to face investments to develop new platforms, train staff and manage a mixed (digital and paper) system, which could increase operating costs, at least in the transition phase.
