India and Pakistan at short irons, risk of nuclear escalation with China’s shadow

While the tension between Nuova Delhi and Islamabad continues to rise, Beijing tries to take advantage of it

Does not mention decreasing the tension between India And Pakistan. The New Delhi officials reported that, in the Kashmir, shootings occurred for the third consecutive night between the troops of the two countries. Also on Sunday, it was announced that the Indian Navy carried out exercises. A government source of Nuova Delhi, listened to by theIndian Expressalso ventilated the hypothesis of “military reprisals”.

The fibrillations arose following the bloody terrorist attack that occurred on Tuesday in Kashmirin which at least 25 Indian and Uno Nepalese citizens were killed. New Delhi has accused Islamabad that he was involved in the massacre: an accusation that the Pakistani authorities have rejected. In recent days, the latter have closed their airspace to Indian airlines, while India, on Wednesday, suspended the treaty on the waters of the ado: an agreement from 1960 which, according to Reuters, guarantees water to 80% of Pakistani farms. New Delhi has, in particular, made it known that the suspension is in force until “Pakistan is abandoned in a credible and irrevocable way its support for cross -border terrorism”. Not only that. The Indian government has also withdrawn visas to Pakistani citizens. On the other hand, Islamabad ordered the expulsion of new Delhi diplomats.

In short, the tension is going up. An overall situation aggravated by the fact that both India and Pakistan are in possession of nuclear armaments. The Kashmir region is divided between the two countries from their independence, which took place in 1947. Both claim it entirely, but each control it. As reported by France24it has been since 1989 that some rebellious groups have used the armed struggle in the Indian area, hoping for it or annexation to Pakistan or independence.

Then there is a further element to consider. Part of the Kashmir is administered by China: That China who, in recent years, has strengthened its relationships with Pakistan. As coincidence that, Saturday, the Foreign Minister of Islamabad, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, had a phone call with the Chinese counterpart Wang Yi. “Both parties”, says a note following the conversation, “they reiterated their firm determination to support regional peace and stability, to promote mutual respect and understanding and jointly contrasting unilateralism and hegemonic policies”. In essence, while attempt himself to the mediator, Beijing sided with Islamabad. Not only that. The Minister of Defense Pakistani, Khawaja Asif, also hoped that the People’s Republic can be involved, together with other countries, in the current investigation into Tuesday terrorist attack.

In short, the crisis between New Delhi and Islamabad could indirectly contribute to fueling the tension between India and China.
