Insta360 X6 debuts ten years after the brand’s first launch and marks the most ambitious step ever taken in the spherical camera category. Larger sensors, a chip dedicated to AI and a structure that combines 360 camera, gimbal and action cam in a single body.
Ten years ago Insta360 launched its first spherical camera. Today the brand controls 71% of the global room market overviews in value, celebrates the two-year milestone with Insta360 X6the new top-of-the-range model of the X series.
The first substantial change concerns the sensors. X6 mounts two 1/1.1 inch Sony sensorswhich deliver imaging equivalent to a full 1-inch format: 33% more sensor area than the X5, for approximately four times the light collected per frame.
Behind the sensors works a tripleAI chipa 3.3GHz 8-core flagship processor flanked by two dedicated imaging chips, which together bring 500% more computing power than the X5 and 35% lower power consumption.
The result can be seen especially in difficult conditions: backlight, high contrast, low lighting. The new low light mode adds two ambient light sensors to reduce flickering, while AdaptiveTone 2.0 meters each lens independently and captures two exposures per frame.
X6 is also the first 360 camera with Native Dolby Vision in roomwith dynamic metadata analyzed frame by frame and a color gamut of over 1.07 billion shades in 10 bits.
Three rooms in one, that’s the point
The turning point, however, is another. The body works like 360 camera, gimbal for subject tracking and single lens action camand switch between modes with a tap.
In 360 mode you turn to 8K 50fps capturing the entire scene: the framing is decided later, by looking at the footage and choosing the right angle, even more than one for the same shot. With InstaFrame 2.0 subject tracking directly returns a flat 4K video without editing steps, and combined with the new Foldable Selfie Stick Remote Kit with joystick the tracking becomes a real gimbal, without the need for a separate stabilizer.
With the POV Head Tracker, however, it is the gaze that guides the shot. Finally, in single lens mode, the X6 behaves like a classic action camera, up to 5K60fps170-degree wide angle or 4K at 120fps for slow motion.
An ecosystem designed for every type of shooting
They rotate around the camera body over 100 accessoriesall compatible with the magnetic attachment system already used by the X5, X4 Air and Ace series, so those who already own those models do not have to buy everything from scratch. Among the most relevant innovations, the Speed Selfie Stick which adds 180 minutes of battery life, the foldable remote kit with joystick, the Bullet Time Selfie Stick 2.0 and a fast charging case with dual batteries and dual SD slots.
For those who ride motorbikes there is a dedicated set with holographic speed overlayauto-loop dashcam mode, and auto-blur of license plates. Cyclists find support for Garmin and Apple Watch statistics overlays.
Those who go underwater can count on the new Invisible Dive Case Pro, which brings the X6 up to 60 meters remaining outside the seam line of the image, so the seam is no longer seen in the finished video.
Top also in hardware
The 2.32-inch OLED screen reaches 1200 nits of peak brightness and always stays on, useful for framing even in direct sunlight. The new 2600mAh Xtreme battery holds up 140 minutes of 360 video at 8K30fps51% more than the X5, and charges from zero to 80% in 24 minutes, operating down to minus 20 degrees.
Insta360’s patented Star-Ridge cooling system works 10% more efficiently than the competition and allows for prolonged 8K recording without overheating.
The second-generation replaceable lens is five times more scratch-resistant and costs 60% less to replace. The X6 is waterproof to 20 meters without a case (IP68) and comes with 47GB of usable internal storageenough to run even without an SD card inserted.
The editing is done by artificial intelligence
The most ambitious part concerns post production. Insta360 PanoMind it is the proprietary model trained on over 10,000 hours of footage in more than 30 different scenarios, from travel to winter sports. It’s described as the first 360-native AI model capable of understanding the entire spherical scene, not just a flat frame.
Just put X6 on charge because AI Directorthe automatic editing engine inside PanoMind, builds a highlight reel on its own from the day’s footage and delivers it directly to the app, with the analysis running on the camera itself and not in the cloud (the function can still be deactivated).
For those who prefer to get their hands on it, Auto Edit 2.0 Transform one or more clips into a complete montage in one tap, managing shots, cuts, music and transitions. Those who want a higher level of control can rely on Moments Prothe new cloud editing tool developed with Google Gemini: you set the subject, atmosphere, style and time period, and the system generates the video starting from those parameters.
Price and availability
Insta360 X6 is available on the official Insta360 Store, on Amazon and at authorized retailers, starting from 699 euros for the Standard pack. Other combinations are also available, including the Basic pack for 799 euros.
By purchasing and activating X6 by September 30, 2026 you will receive one year of 500GB Insta360+ Premium cloud storage, beyond three months of Moments Pro (which offers two clips per month), without additional costs.
