Italy, signed agreement for sustainable agriculture with the Democratic Republic of the Congo

The agreement between Italy and the Democratic Republic of the Congo has been signed. The protagonist of the BFI company, which aims to increase the food safety of the African country. And which is part of the wider setting of the Mattei Plan

From Brazzaville, the capital of the Congo, the signature of an important framework agreement arrives that features our country. The initiative is part of the Alveo of the Mattei Plan and more generally in that activism against the southern shore of the Mediterranean. Strategy that has important repercussions on the entire African continent.

What is it about? A project carried out by the BF International Best Fields Best Food Limited (BFI), a company with high technological content that belongs to BF Spa, the most important Italian agro -industrial group. The goal is to increase the country’s safety and food sovereignty through the development of sustainable and innovative agriculture. That’s why the agreement was reached by mutual agreement with the government of the Republic of the Congo. Which for the occasion saw its minister of agriculture, breeding and fishing involve Paul Valentin Ngobo. For Italy, however, in addition to the CEO of FBI Federico Vecchioni, the ambassador Enrico Nunziata was also present.

The signed agreement constitutes a piece of a wider mosaic that sees our country protagonist. Despite the wind of history, once again he looks to look east, it is essential for us to remain hooked to the south of the Mediterranean. And to interpret the dynamics that shake the black continent. Be they securitarian, whether they are inherent in the socio -economic context. At this juncture, the BFI company has been fighting for years to build a solid and strategic international network by promoting economic, agricultural and social growth in the places where it operates. It is necessary that it is necessary to develop synergies with local governments for the success of the projects. And the Republic of the Congo proves to be a privileged interlocutor who has always been.

The ultimate goal of this dialogue is to reduce the degree of dependence of the African country from abroad. As? Through the creation of a Model Farm, with the best agricultural practices and transfer of know-how. The realization of a project is expected on an area of 10 thousand hectares in the area of downside, precisely in Malolo. But we must not be fooled by past history. We are not faced with unfortunate attempts of neocolonialism. Quite the opposite. The approach of the BFI company is not a predatory type. The identified lands, in fact, are offered in concession of many years of use by the competent authorities. But with a duty specific. Both land ownership and agricultural production remain in the availability of the countries themselves.

Satisfaction on the agreement was expressed by Federico Vecchioni. The CEO of FBI spoke of “important opportunity to develop modern and sustainable agriculture in the country”. Adding that the initiative embodies that “innovative, inclusive and sustainable vision in line with the experiences already started in other areas of Africa”. While the ambassador Enrico Nunziata defines as cardinal themes of Italian foreign policy “security and food sovereignty”. The diplomat then is keen to clarify a point. That is, that the framework agreement fully falls “in the new approach to the African continent, through a public-private partnership and an equal collaboration with the partner country”. However, the spirit of collaboration will also concern other issues. The construction of a water network is planned, interventions on existing infrastructures as well as an intense training activities of young people and women. A support role will also be played by Ciheam Bari and other Italian partners. In short, we are faced with a wise use of diplomacy, which uses our best companies and skills as a starting point for economic and political collaborations. And it does so in a context, which in spite of what can be said, will be fundamental for the international dynamics of the future. For Italy in particular.
