Four years after the disappearance of Saman Abbasthe Pachistana girl of Novelrarathe Court of Assizes of Appeal of Bologna has issued a new sentence that partly overturns the first instance verdict and welcomes the requests of the public prosecution.
The judges inflicted The life sentence to Shabbar Abbas and Nazia Shaheenparents of the young woman, and also to cousins Nomen Ulhak And Ikram ijazwho had been acquitted and released at first instance.
Augmented condemnation also for the Uncle Danish Hasnainwho had indicated the place where the body was buried: for him the sentence passes from 14 to 22 years of imprisonment.
None of the defendants ever confessed The crime. During the trial they accused each other, without providing a univocal truth. But for the Court of Bologna the whole family acted in competition.
The sentence also recognized two aggravating important: the premeditation he is futile reasonsexcluded at first instance by the Court of Reggio Emilia.
The case of Saman Abbas has become a symbol of the drama of forced weddings and young women looking for freedom and self -determination within oppressive family and cultural contexts.
The murder took place in 2021, after Saman had refused a combined marriage in Pakistan and had turned to social services. The family would have attracted him in trap and killed to “clean up the honor” of the family.
