Mattarella greets the Olympic athletes San Siro ready for the big party

The old San Siro will celebrate one hundred years of life in front of two billion people with an exciting show to kick off the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, the first widespread Olympics in history. In the era of social media it was inevitable that the names of the protagonists would be revealed little by little beyond the official status. The day before had as its protagonist the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella: while our head of state visited the athletes at the Olympic Village and proudly wore the official windbreaker, the American political delegation landed at Malpensa with Vice President Vance and Secretary of State Rubio. The airport was blocked for hours and the escort then accompanied the American guests to the Grand Hotel Gallia right in front of the Central Station. Very armored city and many red zones, especially for the dinners of the heads of state organized by the IOC which is scheduled at the Fabbrica del Vapore, while tomorrow there will be the official lunch at Palazzo Reale. It was 19 September 1926 when San Siro was inaugurated and in the centenary year, on the occasion of the inaugural ceremony of Milan Cortina 2026, it was renamed San Siro Olympis Stadium. The capacity will be around 75,000 spectators, the stars announced are Mariah Carey, Andrea Bocelli, Laura Pausini, Ghali, Sabrina Impacciatore, Pierfrancesco Favino, Matilda De Angelis, Cecilia Bartoli and Lang Lang. There should be no shortage of surprises: in the last few hours there has been talk about the astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti, While Tom Cruise will be there as a testimonial for Los Angeles 2028. E Dua Lipa as the official spokesperson for NBC. The athletes will parade in alphabetical order, the first delegation will be Greece and the last will be Italy. It will be a widespread ceremony with two braziers, one at the Arco della Pace in Milan and the other in Piazza Dibona in Cortina with Alberto Tomba and Deborah Compagnoni protagonists. Milan, Cortina, Predazzo and Livigno, the four venues of the races, will be connected to each other. The cast is made up of 1,200 members plus 950 operators and then 500 musicians, 1,400 costumes made, 1,500 pairs of shoes and 7,500 meters of fabric. The inaugural ceremony will begin at 8pm and end after 2.40 minutes.
