Meghan Markle returns to the cinema (in the role of herself)

After years of absence from the scene, Meghan Markle returns to the cinema with a cameo in the comedy “Close Personal Friends”, directed by Jason Orley.

After more than seven years away from the sets, Meghan Markle returns to the cinema. Variety has confirmed that the Duchess of Sussex will appear in a small role in the film Close Personal Friendsan ensemble comedy directed by Jason Orley and set in Los Angeles, where filming is currently underway.

The main cast includes Lily Collins, Jack Quaid, Brie Larson and Henry Golding, joined by Melissa Villaseñor, Natasia Demetriou, Anna Konkle, Patti Harrison, Jack Shalloo and Dustin Demri-Burns. The story revolves around a “normal” couple who, during a holiday in Santa Barbara, becomes friends with a celebrity couple: from that moment, the boundaries between intimacy and fame begin to blur, generating a series of embarrassing and ironic situations.

Behind the screenplay is Isaac Aptaker, who wrote the film together with Orley and Elizabeth Berger. The three had already collaborated on the rom-com “I Want You Back” produced by Amazon MGM.

For Meghan Markle this is the first return to acting after leaving Suitsthe series that made her famous and which she abandoned in 2018, shortly before her wedding to Prince Harry.
