Milan, the first smile for Amorim is given by Cissè (the anti-Leao)

The Rossoneri triumphed in Turin, suffering only at the end: a goal from the youngster taken from Catanzaro and who had to replace Rafa was decisive. Strengths and weaknesses of the first AC Milan performance.

Alphadjo Cissè, born in 2006, the boy that Amorim used to explain to Leao that it is better for him to leave, but that if he stays he will have to sweat his shirt. He is the one who gave Milan the first smile of the season, three important points taken in Turin on an evening with many lights and some shadows in which, given Milan’s starting point, what mattered was winning and so it was done.

Cissè and then Rabiot, the names on the scoresheet of a match that was decided in a matter of seconds midway through the second half. Just in time to defuse the predictable wave of controversy over a penalty not awarded (Vlasic’s hands on a cross again by Cissè) that would have occupied the week if the pitch had not restored a sense of justice to the match. The refereeing issue is already alive, as demonstrated by Genoa’s protests and the lack of understanding that the yardstick has changed and this year we will referee in the European style, whatever that means.

In any case, Milan managed to get out of a match that was getting a little complicated because ball possession is an interesting statistic (74% first half, decreasing after the break) but it has the flaw of not scoring goals. And not even to win if the shots on goal are lacking. Cissè broke the balance, Rabiot doubled the lead and so Milan’s final suffering did not produce the shock of a comeback that would have ruined everything.

Amorim can be moderately satisfied with his team’s first performance. The identity of a game built to try to dominate can be seen, the performers are not exceptional (Modric made room for Jashari on the bench and Musah seemed like a fish out of water as a central defender) and yet there is time to work and also a market that must bring something in the final sprint.

The new ones. Everyone’s eyes were on Goncalo Ramos and his first time with Milan was worth a passing grade. He plays inside the penalty area, as a pure centre-forward, he needs lots of balls and in Turin he didn’t hit the target: this needs to be looked at again. Gila gave solidity to the defense, which risked very little apart from the last quarter of an hour with the team holding its breath. Cissè has already been mentioned. In two weeks Juventus will be a very testing test.
