New Year’s Eve 2024: 3 billion euros for the dinner and boom in disco attendance

Spending boom for New Year’s Eve 2024. There is the “great return” of nightclubs (proceeds of over 55 million euros expected) and an estimated expense of more than 3 billion euros for the dinner. This is how Italians will greet the year.

On average, 72 euros will be spent per person for the New Year’s Eve table. According to a survey conducted by Facile.it and EMG Different, the budget varies significantly by age and geographical area: the youngest, those under 25, shell out only 34 euros, often preferring dinners shared between friends and relatives. On the contrary, in the South and in the Islands, the average expenditure stands at 97 euros, compared to 46 euros in the North East and 52 euros in Central Italy. Despite the general increase in prices, 24% of Italians have taken into account a larger budget for this year compared to 2023, while 12% have reduced spending, with peaks of 30% among the inhabitants of the North East. And There are also those who resort to a personal loan to celebrate New Year’s Eve. This is only 1% of those interviewed, but it is a phenomenon that now exists on every occasion, from holidays to New Year’s Eve.

And the farewell to 2024 also marks the strong recovery of the nightclub sector, heavily affected and reduced in recent years by the pandemic. Over 7 million people will party in clubs this year. 83% of the venues will be open, compared to 75% in 2023 and in many places they are fully booked. The Italian Dance Club Union estimates a business of at least 55 million euros, not counting drinks. Six out of ten nightclubs offer complete packages with dinner and New Year’s Eve, for an average cost of 105 euros (excluding bubbles), while the remaining 40% only offer the New Year’s Eve, at around 30 euros. 80% of the venues will focus on themed evenings, inspired by local traditions or creative concepts, and 10% will host special guests, including artists and influencers, to make the event even more exclusive.

Among the main sources of income, bottles stand out: a bottle of prosecco starts at 50 euros, while for a bottle of champagne you can spend over 200 euros. In the most exclusive venues, the cost of a table for six people with alcohol and drinks can reach stellar figures, even reaching 20-25 thousand euros. Boom in bookings also means a positive impact on employment: 41.7% of companies have in fact hired additional staff for the holidays.
