From the mystical exaltation on Truth to the use of deepfakes: why Donald Trump’s new divine iconography marks a political and religious point of no return.
When Silvio Berlusconi defined himself as the anointed of the Lord brought some smiles, because it was clear to everyone that the statement contained a good dose of (self) irony. Donald Trump which through artificial intelligence it looks like Jesus Christon the contrary, doesn’t make you laugh at all, and actually makes you want to call it neurodeliri.
with a religious theme, published on Donald Trump’s Truth profile.
And not because we have lost our sense of humor, but because at a certain point, we are allowed to say it with a national-populist nuance, enough is enough. We have never liked speeches that are prejudicially hostile to The Donaldand indeed we initially had a certain sympathy for the man. After all he had started off quite well, picking the woke and presenting himself as the president of peace.
The decline of the president of peace and the weight of duties
Of course, he did not resolve the Ukrainian conflict in 24 hours as promised, but even he knew that that was a rallying exaggeration: the important thing was to offer conciliatory signals on Russia. We have tolerated some of his output in very poor taste such as the propaganda videos on Gaza transformed into a sort of new Dubai because shortly afterwards he did his utmost to obtain a sort of truce from the massacre (a slowdown in the bombing was better than nothing).
We even understood the ratio dei dutieseven though they risked putting theEuropean economybecause basically the dirty game of Germany it was known about exports and over the years it had damaged us too. And in any case, European green policies were decidedly worse than American taxes. We were patient on the attack on the Venezuela. Maduro nobody liked it, and in that case the use of force was limited, the strategy was quite clear and the objectives were quickly achieved.
The diplomatic fracture and the shadow of the ayatollahs
But then came the attack onIran. And he will also have some reason, as some staunch defenders of Washingtonbut every now and then we should also remember that allies must be treated with respect. A respect at least equal to that which the USA reserves for Israel. Instead Trump he embarked on an undertaking that his most far-sighted collaborators had presented to him as complex and preferably avoidable. He did it to our detriment, without offering anything in return and without a clear horizon.
It will also be true that the aim is to hit the Chinabut if the Europeans have to pay the price, well then no, thanks. And they will be ugly and bad ayatollahof course. But, again, we need to have a little respect. Declaring that “an entire civilization will die tonight” is not war rhetoric, it is an aberration that should arouse shame, if only because it makes theWest (or presumed such) exactly like the enemies he says he wants to fight in the name of freedom.
In any case, it wasn’t just theIranbut also of Lebanon. A free hand was given to Benjamin Netanyahuby whose desire for annihilation we sincerely would not like to be infected or touched. The Trump who wanted himself to be president of peace is dead, buried under Israeli bombs and under the nonsense uttered by certain advisors in the midst of military excitement.
The mystical escalation and the clash with the Vatican
Now it’s the turn of the Dad. Which, clearly, infuriates Donald because he cannot be controlled and, unlike the representatives of the State Churches, he can act without political conditioning. Trumpin mystical escalation, first we pretend Holy Spirit claiming to have gotten him elected. Then it turns into Martin Luther and covers him with insults because he dares to talk about peace. Finally it is compared to Christ and he creates himself on social media portraits to be venerated.
We don’t know if some foolish evangelical pastor or some bellicose Protestant-Zionist convinced the president that he was a new Messiah. Certainly in his actions we can read a good dose of apocalyptic exaltation, the ancient vice of gods emerges puritans who believed themselves to be the only ones enlightened by God, invested with the sacred mission of redeeming the world. But it doesn’t matter: Trump he should know that those who believe they are the returned Messiah usually do not end well, and more often than not they bring ruin to quite a few innocent people. Yes, we admit it: we liked Donald some time ago. But now (not from today) only one comment elicits from us: enough is enough.
