Out with pork, in with couscous and falafel: this is how the school erases Italy to please Islam

Between health fears and cultural motivations, here’s what’s behind the ban on pork in schools in Emilia and Friuli.

We are stopping eating salami. But we don’t stop being. Indeed, we have never been so salami as now that we give up eating salami. As demonstrated by the news coming from province of Pordenone: in the homeland of San Daniele hamin fact we no longer eat San Daniele ham. At least in school canteens. Children will be served chicken curry and couscous but not San Daniele ham nor salami. Nor the pork chop. And not even the rigatoni all’amatriciana with the very dangerous bacon.

All abolished in the name of Islamic correctness. What do you want to do with it? We were once so proud of our gastronomic heritages that we carried them from here to there. Now, at most, from here Allah.

The cancellation of food roots in refectories

The Friulian news follows by a few days that which arrived from Piacenza: here too pork banned from school canteens, cup and bacon sacrificed on the altar of Muhammad. A protest was organized in the Emilian city, with 1,400 signatures collected in a few hours to ask the Ministers of Health and Education to reintroduce traditional dishes into children’s diets. Response from the PD mayor Katia Tarasconi: you can’t. Parents question: why?

The mayor’s response: because with pork, such as loin, children risk suffocation. It’s clear: you have to avoid risk. Although, to be honest, children suffocated by loin are still inferior to the brains of mayors suffocated by stupidity. Or Islamophilia, assuming there is a difference between the two. Even the mayor must have realized this since she half-backtracked: “Yes to the cup, but only from the third grade.”

From historical evidence to the paradox of the Council of Trent

However, it is nice to see the lightness with which we renounce centuries-old traditions. Al Civic Museum of Piacenza there is a pendant depicting a pig that dates back to Roman times: pork was already consumed in these parts back then. There is a 12th century mosaic in the San Colombano abbey in Bobbio which depicts the sacred rite of slaughter, a similar one is kept in the crypt of the church of San Savino in Piacenza. And San Daniele ham? The chronicles of the Council of Trent tell us that on 1 July 1563 the gathered priests consumed “thirty pairs of parsutti” brought on the back of a mule from San Daniele. The bishop of Aquileia, who was evidently not an imam, had given them as a gift.

Not yet, at least.

Now, however, we will also have to deal with this: an imam as bishop. We’re getting closer.

The thin line between openness and loss of identity

Don’t you believe it? Look what is happening: we have become Italistan, a Muslim province, a territory of conquest of Islam. What the Muslims did not succeed when they tried with weapons in Poitiers (732), in Lepanto (1571) and in Vienna (1683) succeeds today when they use the weapons of immigration and demographics: in Padua the tribunal that acts in the name of sharia has just been established; in Turin a maxi mosque is born with a minaret that challenges the Mole Antonelliana; in Bergamo too, with Qatari money; in Pioltello the schools close for Ramadan.

A few months ago in Bologna the Madonna of San Luca was strictly kept outside the school gates, because, the teachers said, we are a secular country. But in Treviso the teachers take the children to the mosque to make them kneel towards Mecca together with the imam. Intermittent secularism. Which is a different way of saying submission.

Traditional food reduced to pure exception

What do you want to do with it? From failure to integrate (theirs) to disintegration (ours) is one step. We know that those who give up defending their roots give up defending themselves. Yet it happened: in most schools in the province of Pordenone, including San Daniele, San Daniele was cancelled. And together with San Daniele every type of pork. Only two countries are saved, as he informs us The Gazzettino di Venezia: Casarza della Delizia, where one Monday a month children will be allowed amatriciana pasta and one Friday a month lonza will be served (evidently Friulian children suffocate less than Emilian ones). And Spilinbergo where on request (and only on request) you can ask for the addition of ham on lasagne and margherita pizza. Two towns across the province. From which we deduce that our typical food is no longer typical, but becomes an exception. Strangers in our house. This is why we stop eating salami. But we are as never before.
