The Council of Ministers approved the bill connected to the maneuver 2025, introducing important news for the release and management of passports and identity cards. Here are the main changes.
Goodbye to the renewal of passports
It will no longer be possible to renew a expired passport. At the end of the period of validity, it will be necessary to request a new one. Currently, however, the document can be renewed before the ten -year deadline.
Abolition of the collective passport
The provision eliminates the collective passport, so far released to groups of people for travel with cultural or religious purposes. This document, already subject to temporal restrictions, will no longer be available also because many countries reject their entry for safety reasons.
Simplified procedures for the theft of the passport abroad
In case of theft of the passport outside of Italy, the procedures for the complaint and release of a new document will be simplified and differentiated, facilitating citizens in difficulty.
Increase in sanctions
Fines for those who try to leave the country without a passport or a valid document will be updated. The amounts, so far expressed in lire in the current legislation, will be adapted to the euro and re -evaluated on the basis of inflation.
Identity cards valid to travel outside the EU
Important news also for identity cards: thanks to new bilateral agreements, they can also be used for expatriation to some non-EU countries. In addition, any limitations on apatter will be clearly indicated on the document.
What changes for Italians residing abroad
The government aims to make the Aire more efficient (registry of Italians residing abroad), expanding the audience of citizens who can register on a optional basis. The goal is to integrate the data already in possession of the consular offices with those of the national registry of the resident population (ANPR), improving information management.
