In 2027 the subsidized redemption could cost around 180 euros more for each year of studies. Costs, installments and tax discounts to decide in time
Turning your college years into retirement contributions costs less today than it might cost in a few months. For the subsidized redemption of the degree, 2027 could bring an increase in costs of around 180 euros for each year of studies. On a five-year degree, the bill rises by almost 900 euros.
How much does it cost to redeem your degree in 2026 and how much in 2027
In 2026 the facilitated redemption is calculated on the minimum contribution of artisans and traders, set at 18,808 euros. Applying the 33% rate, each year of university costs 6,206.64 euros: this is the figure officially indicated by INPS. For 2027 the definitive data is still missing, but estimates are circulating that predict an increase in the minimum of 2.9%.
The parameter would rise to around 19,353 euros and a year of degree would cost 6,386.63 euros, around 180 euros more than today. The increase weighs more when there are many years to redeem. For four years of study the expense would go from 24,826.56 to approximately 25,550 euros, i.e. 720 euros more. With a five-year degree it would go from 31,033.20 euros in 2026 to around 31,930 euros, almost 900 euros more. They are projections: the true amount will depend on the new minimum, which has not yet been set.
Why the price of the degree redemption goes up: what does the minimum have to do with it?
In the subsidized redemption the salary does not count. The amount depends on the minimum contribution of artisans and traders, a parameter which is re-evaluated every year. If the minimum increases, the cost of each year of university also increases accordingly. For this reason, in theory, submitting the application by December allows the account to be blocked at the values of 2026. The exact price will be communicated by INPS after the request, without any obligation to pay.
Subsidized or ordinary: the difference that weighs on the wallet
Facilitated redemptionin force since 2019, concerns study periods that fall within the contributory system. It has the same price for everyone and is often lighter. The ordinary redemption it is calculated instead on the salary: the more you earn, the more you pay, and the bill can become very high. For study years prior to 1996 the rules are more complex and depend on your contribution history, so it is best to ask for a personalized simulation.
They can be redeemed three-year and master’s degrees, university diplomas, specializations, doctorates and Afam and ITS Academy qualifications, even if only in part. They remain excluded years out of date and periods already covered by compulsory, notional contributions or other redemptions. Redeem the degree has a double advantage: you can leave work early and, by increasing your contribution amount, you can obtain a higher allowance.
Installments and tax discounts: how to lighten your spending
The ransom can be paid in a single solution, but also in installments. The INPS allows you to reach 120 monthly payments, therefore ten years, without interest. The tax authorities also lend a hand. Those who pay with their own money can deduct the entire sum from their overall income. If a family member pays for an unemployed dependent, there is a 19% deduction. The application is submitted online on the INPS website. Before deciding, it is best to compare the expense with the pension benefit.
