The landing was more tiring than expected Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals of the ATP 1000 in Miami. But in less than 24 hours the South Tyrolean first beats Moutet and then Michelsen and always in two sets. The score (7-5, 7-6) says of the difficulties encountered by Jannik against the American who played a great match, but as usual Sinner interpreted the decisive moments of the match perfectly, all in his favour. For the first time in this tournament Sinner lost a service round, he had a few missed passes leaving Michelsen in command of the match, but he always remained attached to the match and then overcame the most important moments with his usual class.
The difficulties
Even Jannik admitted in the end that it wasn’t easy: “It was a tough match and very different from the one played against Moutet, the weather conditions were very different. The serve helped me a lot, but I’m not happy with the baseline play. I made many mistakes especially with my forehand and I will have to try to improve there. Now I have a day off anyway and I will need it to rest and prepare well for the quarter-finals.”
The match
Michelsen immediately demonstrated that he could handle the dribble well with Sinner and the game progressed to one absolute balance until 5-5. Here Sinner got the break by breaking the American’s serve and he then closed 7-5 without too many difficulties. The second set was much more complicated with Michelsen who began to command with very powerful shots from the sidelines, he broke Sinner’s serve and took the lead 5-2. The South Tyrolean never lost his head, he played point for point, recovered the break in the ninth game and then came the tie-break in which the American made the first leap forward at 3-1, but then Sinner recovered by going to the 5-4 to close with two first balls that put Michelsen in difficulty. In the quarter-finals Sinner will play with the winner of the match between Atmane and Tiafoe.
