The volume edited by Javier Echeverría Sola highlights the dialogue between the couturier’s vision and Spanish craftsmanship during its 130th anniversary
Last winter, Milan hosted at Palazzo Morando, Cristóbal Balenciaga | Shoes from Spain Tributethe first monographic exhibition dedicated to Balenciaga in Italy. Eight months later the eponymous volume comes out with the aim of documenting the creative aesthetic bridge that has always linked the Basque couturier to the world of footwear and high craftsmanship Made in Spain. Promoted by FICE – Federation of Spanish Footwear Industries and supported by ICEX España Exportación and Informaziones, the Spanish public body responsible for promoting the internationalization of businesses and exports, the book is the natural continuation of the exhibition in the year of the 130th anniversary of the birth of Cristobal Balenciaga. Conceived and edited by Javier Echeverría Sola, the editorial project is a visual journey through art with images taken by Juan Carlos Vega, including twenty-five original items from the main Spanish museums and private collections such as the Museo Cristóbal Balenciaga in Getaria, the Museo del Traje in Madrid, the Museu del Disseny in Barcelona and the Antoni de Montpalau, Alventosa-Talamantes, Teresa Berganza, Swarovski Heritage Collection and Sonsoles Diez de Rivera y de Icaza. And it is precisely from the collection of the Marquise de Llanzol, the designer’s muse, that the choice of image for the casket box comes: in the foreground the 1957 wedding dress in ivory silk shantung, embroidered entirely in silver thread and mother-of-pearl sequins, which today is part of the exhibition at the Getaria exhibition centre.
