First images from the set and new announcements in the cast: the Harry Potter TV series takes shape and prepares for its debut in 2027 on HBO.
After months of waiting and speculation, the filming of the original HBO television series dedicated to Harry Potter have officially started. The production started in the famous Warner Bros. Studios of Leavesden, in the United Kingdom – the same place where the films of the saga were also shot. The debut is expected in 2027 on HBO and HBO Max, also in the new launch markets such as Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom.
The first image of the young Harry
To celebrate the first clapperboard a photo of the young Harry Potter was released – played by Dominic McLaughlin – who for the first time shows the new face of the protagonist with the unmistakable saetta -shaped scar and round glasses. A symbolic image that marks the beginning of a new era for fans of the saga created by JK Rowling, with the aim of telling the seven books in serial form, more faithful and relaxed than the film version.
The new faces in the cast
Among the new faces that are added to the cast, Rory Wilmot stands out, chosen to play Neville Paciock, one of the most loved characters for its evolution from a shy student to brave hero. Amos Kitson will instead give Dudley Dursley the face, Harry’s overbearing cousin, a key figure in his childhood. In the role of Madama Bumb, the Hogwarts’s big heart nurse, there will be Louise Brealey, while Anton Lesser, a face already known for intense roles in The Crown And game of Throneswill play Garrick Olivander, the enigmatic manufacturer of chopsticks.
What we know so far on the series
The adaptation is produced by HBO in collaboration with Brutë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television. The showrunner will be Francesca Gardiner (His Dark Materials), while Mark Mylod (Succession) will direct the first episodes. Jk Rowling appears as an executive producer, guaranteeing continuity with the original universe, but with a greater creative detachment than in the past.
The series promises to tell a book by season, thus offering greater depth to the characters and secondary plots.
