The IDF hits strategic Houthi sites

Last night the IDF struck Houthi targets in Yemen. The IDF spokesperson’s unit said in a statement: «Shortly ago, following the approval of the attack plans by the Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katzthe fighter jets of the IAF, under the direction of the Directorate of Intelligence and the Israeli Navystruck military targets belonging to the Houthi terrorist regime on the west coast and inland of Yemen.” The statement also states: «The Houthi terrorist regime has repeatedly attacked the State of Israel, including by attacking Israeli territory using UAVs and surface-to-surface missiles. Most of these projectiles were successfully intercepted.” Since the beginning of the conflict in Gaza, the Houthis have launched over 200 missiles and 170 drones against Israel in the last year. According to the IDF, the vast majority did not reach Israel or were intercepted by the army and its allies in the region. Yesterday morning a ballistic missile launched from Yemen towards central Israel was intercepted by the long-range system Arrow but debris from the missile intercept caused extensive damage to a school in Ramat Gan which subsequently collapsed.

Two waves of attacks

The targets hit by the IDF are those that were used by the Islamist militia for military purposes, according to the IDF statement, which added: «The attacks degrade the Houthi terrorist regime, preventing it from exploiting the targets for military and terrorist purposes, including the smuggling of Iranian weapons into the region.” The Israeli Air Force’s airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen were carried out in two waves, the military reported. Fourteen Israeli Air Force fighters, supported by tanker planes and reconnaissance aircraft, took part in the strikes, which the army had been planning for weeks as a response to the pro-Iranian group’s attacks on Israel. IAF jets were already flying towards Yemen when, at 2.35am, the Houthis fired a ballistic missile at Israel which was intercepted. At 3:15 am the first wave of attacks was carried out along the coast of Yemen, hitting the ports of Hodeidah Ras Isa And Salif. Eight tugboats used to bring ships to ports were destroyed in the attacks. A second wave of airstrikes at 4.30am hit two power plants in the capital Sanaa with subsequent power outages across the city.

Second Times of Israel seven people were killed in an attack on the port of Salif and the others in two attacks on the Ras Issa oil facility, both located in the western province of Hodeidah. The Israeli air raids conducted overnight in Yemen were aimed at completely blocking the three ports used by the Houthis, supported by Iran, located on the country’s coast. In the attack, all tugboats used to move ships in ports were destroyed. In a previous Israeli attack on the port of Hodeidah, cranes used to unload goods were hit. Now Israel considers that all the activities of the pro-Iranian Yemeni terrorist militia in the ports have been annihilated. Speaking from the command bunker of the Air Force, where he approved the attack plans, the Minister of Defense Israel Katz sent an unequivocal message: «We have hit strategic targets of the Houthi terrorist organization in Yemen again this evening. The long arm of Israel will reach you too. Anyone who raises a hand against Israel will be cut down, anyone who hits us will be hit seven times as much.” “The Houthi movement will respond to escalation with escalation,” he said Muhammad al-Bukhaitia member of the political bureau of the pro-Iranian rebels after the Israeli raids on Yemen in response to the launch of a missile against the Jewish state last night.
