The necklace that explores the ambiguity of digital security is born

Published by Mimesis, the new editorial series analyzes the challenges of cybersecurity between law, ethics and technology

In an era in which computer threats become more and more sophisticated and technology develops at a difficult speed to contain, it is born Gray areas – Trails in digital securitya new editorial series published by Mimesis. The goal: to investigate the ambiguity, contradictions and the most current challenges of cybersecurity, offering a multidisciplinary and criticism of a theme that today involves every area of society.

Designed for professionals, researchers, policy makers, aware students and readers, Gray areas aims to open a dialogue between law, ethics, technology and society. The title deliberately recalls those uncertain areas – the “gray areas”, in fact – where the decisions are never simple: spaces where the rules are still vague, the shaded ethical implications and the potentially decisive consequences.

The motto chosen for the necklace is emblematic: “If you don’t know how to explain it in a simple way, you did not understand it quite well”, a quote attributed to Albert Einstein. A guideline that translates into the desire to combine theoretical rigor and popular accessibility, without trivializing complexity.

Among the topics covered in the volumes: the new frontiers of cybersicacy, the legal implications of artificial intelligence, the governance of personal data, the resilience against advanced digital threats, the role of algorithms in the surveillance and control mechanisms, up to the delicate balance between security and fundamental rights.

Each book will be edited by experts in the sector and will contain unpublished contributions, enriched by practical examples and study cases.

“The goal-explains Alessandro Curioni, technical-scientific director of the series-is not only to contribute to the academic debate, but to build a critical culture of digital security that is really accessible to everyone”.

The first volume of the series, currently in the processing, will be dedicated to the new conflicts in the information era, tracing an updated picture of the geopolitical and cultural tensions that occur in cyberspace.

With Gray areasacademic publishing takes a step towards dissemination, inviting readers and professionals to move with awareness in the unstable territories of digital transformation.
