The New San Siro is now accelerating: the aim is to start work next year

After the rejection of five appeals to the TAR, the next stage is at the end of October when the rendering of the Foster + Partners and Manic studios is scheduled to be presented.

With the rejection of the appeals by the TAR the race to build the new stadium in Milan continues without a hitch. The decision of the Regional Administrative Court of Lombardy which rejected the five appeals presented, deeming four inadmissible and one rejected on the merits, allows Inter and Milan to continue according to the established stages after the agreement with the municipality of Milan. It should not be forgotten that all sentences can be appealed to the Council of State (by April 6th according to the ordinary deadlines) while the sword of Damocles of the investigation into auction rigging by the Court of Milan still remains.

The next steps

It is expected between the end of October and the beginning of November the presentation of the new rendering designed by the Foster + Partners and Manic studios while by mid-December there will be the strategic environmental assessment, with attention paid to the environmental impact (1.5 million cubic meters of earth to be excavated and 126 thousand cubic meters of rubble and tens of thousands of truck trips). The overall project is 2.3 billion euros in total, of which, among the main expenses, around 700 million for the new facility with 71,500 spectatorswith over 13 thousand premium seats, 400 million for hotels, shopping centers and offices and another 400 million in financial charges. Then there will be the filing of the new feasibility plan, the approval of the implementation plan (filed last March) by March 2027 and in the meantime also the approval of the Services Conference. Work should start by the summer of next year. which will last four years. The new stadium in Milan is built for the 2032 European Championships and to get there in the best possible way you need an entire season to play: Inter and Milan aim to play the 2031-2032 championship in the new facility. San Siro has just turned one hundred years old and the construction of the new stadium is dividing the city and the fans between nostalgics and innovators. But in the meantime we are already thinking about the new stadium and the name to give it, someone has suggested calling it Mazzola stadium when Inter plays and Rivera stadium when AC Milan are playing. So as to unite two icons of Italian football of the sixties and seventies. Gianni Rivera at the Trento Sports Festival said he was enthusiastic: “It would be the best way to honor my friend Sandro.”
