Trip to General Vannacci’s camp (enlisted, funding and surveys)

It is now clear, with these polls, Vannacci will be decisive in politics. But is the party ready? Here’s who does what in the Fn: memberships, fundraising, “enlisting” disgruntled others, dialogue with allies…

«Vannacci will be our De Gaulle». When the general calls, too Mario Borghezio responds to the appeal with enthusiasm: «At your orders, general!». Skilled and enlisted. The unattainable leader galvanizes even the most pyrotechnic former Northern League MEP ever: “He can still give a lot.” And the seventy-eight year old recruit launches into the challenging comparison with the mythological peer who became French president. «Extensive program», to quote his quick quip Charles De Gaulle. The advance of Roberto Vannaccihowever, remains overwhelming. Ten percent in the polls: the finish line now seems imminent. Over one hundred thousand members: more than Alloy or Forza Italia. Countless politicians called to arms: from wild in office to indomitable deposed.

The military loves war metaphors. However, the passionate radio commentary from Cuneo-Pinerolo in honor of Fausto Coppi: «There is only one man in command». He. He created National future last February, after the controversial farewell to the League. Six months later, all Italian politics is forced to deal with the former raider. There will be a vote next year and Vannacci is organizing the troops. Successful personal parties often bring problems, such as jumping on the bandwagon of the opinion poll winner. Behind the hill, there are also askari. Elsewhere does destiny seem like a blank shot? The general, on the other hand, doesn’t miss a beat. With bayonet fixed, brave men and mercenaries, discontented and trumpeted, heroic and cunning, colonels and infantrymen rush forward. Insidious, sure. Yet inevitable. We need to grow everywhere, starting from nothing.

From the “dirty dozen” to the colonels in Parliament

The diabolical general, rather than lavishing unlikely praise, blurts out: «My party comrades are the waste of others. And that’s fine with me. I want the dirty dozen.” Like the title of the famous Hollywood film about a group of outcasts who want to eliminate Nazi officials. What causes havoc elsewhere, creates curricula in the redoubt. Emanuele Pozzolo“the gunslinger deputy” chased away by the Melonian army, ends up off the road with a few too many drinks in his system? Trifles. Giuseppe Barboniluxury manager and militant, attacks a troublesome immigrant? All it takes is a slap. Luca Carleoentrepreneur and head of Futuro Nazionale in Lombardy, is being investigated for fraud? Next one. And anyway, the general had said it. They are the dirty dozen, not the withered lilies of the Wide field.

Ugly, dirty and evil. In Parliament the leader can count on eight colonels. The most listened to is Pisan Edoardo Zielloformer Salvinian. Deputy since 2018, he indicates the direction to the futurists in permanent and effective service in the capital: electoral law, anti-Europeanism, energy sovereignty. Latest feat: the noose waved in the Chamber, a nostalgic re-enactment of the Northern League’s early days, against the EU fund for the repurchase of weapons. Ziello is the party treasurer. Decisive role. Between March and June Futuro Nazionale raised almost 350 thousand euros. Companies from various sectors contribute to the cause: construction, agri-food, services. Among the munificents, there is the Piedmontese oil company: 30 thousand euros. In the past it has financed Giovanni Totiformer Ligurian governor. It is even more generous Esicompany: 40 thousand euros. But the best-known supporter certainly remains Lorenzo Ruzzainfluencer jeweler: a donation of five thousand euros. At the moment, pending the electoral campaigns, there are no large expenses to face. The offices are also given on free loan by supporters. Ziello himself takes care of it, who is also responsible for organizing the party.

The most media and transversal of the Capitoline patrol is another Northern League defector: the Honourable Laura Ravettowas a passionate Berlusconi supporter and undersecretary. Ex-wife of the Piddino deputy Dario Ginefraleads the phalanx of the dialoguers. Yes, better governors or intrepid? The general assures that he doesn’t want the left to win, but he doesn’t miss an opportunity to argue either. Especially with Forza Italia, which is part of the Brussels European People’s Party. And the popular people are the favorite target of the MEP: starting from the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

The march on the territories between North and South

While waiting for decisive battles at home, the recruitment continues. There are rumors of new additions to Montecitorio And Palazzo Madama. Moreover, the elections are approaching and the fear of not being re-elected is increasing. For many members of the Northern League and Melonians, re-nomination is a mirage. The general, however, still needs willing daring men.

But it is in the area that crowds of seduced or abandoned people flock. The general heads mainly to Padania, focusing on the security emergency. First he enlists two regional councilors at Pirellone: Luca Ferrazzielected on the Moratti list, e Pietro Macconian ultra-Catholic who left Brothers of Italy. Then, he calls the former centre-right mayoral candidate in Milan to arms: Luca Bernardoesteemed head of pediatrics at Fatebenefratelli. Not exactly troublemakers. Good and pragmatic bourgeoisie, rather.

At the last administrative elections, Futuro Nazionale did not run. Left as soon as he was born. Risk of unnecessary embarrassment. But now the municipal elections are looming. And this time the general moves well in advance. In 2027 there will be voting in the most important Italian cities. The session could be combined with the policies, with Vannacci acting as a driving force for those chosen. In Milan he therefore announces an imminent candidate, while the center-right struggles to find a shared name. Futuro Nazionale wants to anticipate the times, to claim diligence and decision-making. Same story, though: will the general end up favoring his adversaries? The Lombard capital is about to close the controversial decade of Beppe Sala. With an aspiring mayor from Vannaccia, the difficult recovery would become a desperate undertaking.

From the plan for Padua to the Roman axis with Alemanno

Padua will also vote in 2027. And National Future has already presented a crackling plan of eighty-six pages for the “reconquest” of the city of the Saint: patrols on horseback, drones over dangerous neighborhoods, retractable benches, anti-bivouac irrigation. Veneto, a former Northern League protectorate, is the region with the most impetuous advance, both in terms of members and committees. The Vannacciano proconsul is from Verona Stefano Valdegamberiregional councilor arrived from the Northern League. It is he who takes care of the incessant recruitment: administrators willing to change their coats, but above all plethora of former local politicians.

And then Tuscany, inevitably. Vannacci lives in Viareggio with his wife and two daughters. It is no coincidence that his deputy is from the area: the other regional councillor, Massimiliano Simoninational coordinator of the party. A building contractor and former non-commissioned officer, he also boasts a past as a paratrooper for the Folgore. In 2023 he will run for mayor of Pietrasanta with the support of the Melonian party. A year later he coordinated the electoral campaign of the author of The World in Reverse, then running with the League. Annamaria Fridgethen: municipal councilor in Bagni di Lucca, former Melonian and Northern League member, entrepreneur in the beauty sector. She is the national manager of the successful membership.

In Rome the most illustrious representative of the dirty dozen is Gianni Alemanno: former minister and mayor, he remains the nostalgic leader of the social right. In 2022 he breaks with Fratelli d’Italia. He founded the sovereignist Indipendenza movement, which merged with Futuro Nazionale last March. Sentenced to one year and ten months for trafficking in illicit influence, he was released from Rebibbia on 24 June. That same evening he gets together with the general in a Sardinian restaurant in Northern Rome. Whatever happens, he will choose the aspiring mayor in the capital. With the unspeakable hope, the well-informed malign, of causing the Melonian candidate to lose. In the South, however, the aggressive Calabria stands out, where the deputy reigns Domenico Furgiuele. Here, however, the first dramatic revolt takes place. Six hundred members, a month ago, accused the “usual prophets”. They leave the party, complaining of lack of meritocracy. “They only want to protect the dirty dozen.” Actually, it’s already an army.

Only the doubt remains: brancaleonesque or daring?
