Maria Grazia Cucinotta and Daiana Guspero. Two women, two intense personalities, two different ways of describing a single passion, that of tango.
“Malena and the Tango” will be staged on Monday 16 March at the Manzoni Theater in Milan.
Both are Malena, a woman who in a milonga in Buenos Aires, in a timeless time, tells about herself, through her dark eyes passes the story of a dance, of that dance symbol of sensuality and passion.
Maria Grazia Cucinotta is the narrator of a story that Daiana Guspero dances and interprets.
Maria Grazia, How did the Cuccinotta-Guspero partnership come about?
“When Gianvito Pulzone proposed this project to me, I immediately thought that Malena couldn’t be anyone other than Daiana Guspero. She she is not only the queen of tango, Daiana is the tango. A dance that is beauty and seductionAnd: she fully embodies this being. In addition to being a beautiful woman, she is also a workaholic, she trains, works and studies continuously.”
What is your relationship with tango?
“I love tango because it is synonymous with seduction, it is a territory where the woman who seduces without ever being vulgar, she is strong, she is in charge. In tango it is the woman who chooses who to dance it with. The man proposes himself, but it is she who accepts or not. It is a game of seduction, of understanding. That form of seduction and falling in love that has been somewhat lost, a sort of ancient custom that in reality we all love. Nowadays we want to do modern at all costs, declaring that it is something that is no longer fashionable, but that’s not true!”
Do you like “old fashioned” courtship…
“Absolutely yes. We are already independent, and I don’t feel like the weaker sex. If a man helps me, for example, to carry a bag or put a suitcase on a hat rack, I’m only pleased.
In Argentina this tradition of courtesy has remained, men are still extremely gallant, they open the door for you, they kiss your hand. This wonderful tradition has remained and has now been lost, because today it almost seems that kindness is a sort of stupidity, when in fact it improves your life.”
“Malena and the Tango”. Can you tell us a little about the show?
“The show is truly engaging. I am the narrator, I am Malena who then becomes the Malena dancer. It’s like watching a film, a story that you can see with your eyes open, savoring its smells and nuances. The more I read the story written by GianVito Pulzone and Oscar Bellomo, the more I fell madly in love with this dance.
The history of tango is the story of immigrants, who, despite speaking different languages, found a wonderful form of communication with tango.
I had already read the biography of Bacalov, author, among others, of some of the music for “Il Postino”. When I received this proposal my answer was immediately yes!
I watched “Moulin Rouge” a hundred times just to enjoy and relive Roxanne’s tango moment. My dream was to be her at that moment!”
You and Daiana will be accompanied on stage by a small live orchestra
“With us on stage, there will be the guitars of GianVito Pulzone and Oscar Bellomo accompanied by the sweet and deep sound of Gino Zambelli’s bandoneon. They will play and rearrange the most iconic songs and music of tango.”
Have you ever taken Tango lessons?
“To be able to dance tango you have to meet Daiana, because she is tango! Tango is beautiful, it’s made of looks, of unsaid things, of those emotions that make your heart beat and give you goosebumps. Seeing Daiana dance is wonderful, she also taught me some steps and with her everything was simple; she knows how to make you move, she knows how to make every woman express the sensuality.
I love beauty, indeed, I thank my mother for teaching me to love beauty, there is no jealousy, competition, there is the joy of sharing a moment.”
The show is set in a “timeless” milonga
“When you enter a milonga – and the world of tango – time stops. There is no time just as there is no age.
Tango is like a drug, it makes you rediscover yourself, it makes women remember that you can be sensual at any age. It makes you reclaim your body, it’s a journey of rediscovering yourself.
It also helps the man to restore that gallantry that now seems to have disappeared. To cover the charm of seduction, of looks, of observing beauty, of seducing and letting yourself be seduced.”
