730 super simplified 2026, how the DIY tax return really works

From guided compilation to faster IRPEF refunds: who can use the super simplified 730, when it is convenient and what errors it avoids for employees and pensioners

Tax return and are you afraid of getting lost among pictures, codes, lines and news on deductions, deductions, tax wedge and all the news this year? That’s why there is the “super simplified” model 730, the evolved version of the pre-compiled form introduced by the Revenue Agency in 2024. A method that aims to make tax “do it yourself” easier for employees and pensioners, reducing errors and technical steps. The system guides the taxpayer step by step, reducing the risk of errors. But how does the super simplified 730 actually work? Who can use it? And when is it convenient?

What is the super simplified 730 and how does it work

The super simplified 730 model is available in the reserved area of the Revenue Agency website. It joins the traditional pre-compiled 730, but with a much more intuitive interface. You can access online with Spid, Electronic Identity Card (CIE) or National Service Card (CNS) and you will already find the tax data in the possession of the Tax Office loaded: income from work or pension, health expenses, mortgage interest, insurance premiums, social security contributions and other information transmitted by bodies and operators. The difference compared to the classic pre-compiled form is that the system does not oblige the citizen to intervene directly on the panels of the 730 form, line by line. The information is in fact presented through understandable and guided sections, such as “house”, “family”, “expenses incurred” or “income received”. If the data is correct, just confirm it. However, if something is missing or not precise, the taxpayer can modify or integrate the information without having to understand in which line to insert it: the Revenue Agency’s software will automatically fill in the correct tax form. It is designed for those who want to manage the declaration independently, but are unfamiliar with the technical tax language.

Super simplified tax return: who can use it

The procedure is intended mainly for employees and pensioners with an income situation that is not too complex. It is suitable for those who have only one employer or pension institution; has few types of income; must include common deductible or deductible expenses and does not have particularly complex tax operations. However, the other options also remain available: the taxpayer can continue to use the traditional pre-compiled 730 or rely on a Caf or a qualified professional. Tax “do it yourself” continues to grow. In the last two years, taxpayers who have independently sent the 730 or the Personal Income form have increased from 4.8 to 5.7 million. And the simplified mode is contributing decisively to this growth.

When is it best to choose the super simplified 730

The super simplified method is especially convenient for those who have a linear and simple declaration and want to avoid the costs of the Caf or accountant. The main advantage is speed: you can check the data, correct any errors and send the declaration directly online. Presenting the 730 already between May and June can also be useful for those waiting for an Irpef refund. In these cases, the tax credit can arrive directly in the July paycheck or in the pension between August and September.
