The world number one is treating his knee at J Medical and could decide to skip the tournament preceding the US Open
Jannik Sinner decided to leave Monte Carlo and spend a few days at J Medical in Turin where he also had a treatment session today physiotherapy for his knee problems. The world number one’s plan was to leave for Ohio tomorrow ahead of the Cincinnati tournament which will reveal its scoreboard on Wednesday. At the moment there is no alarm about Sinner’s condition but Jannik and his staff are evaluating whether to give up the tournament to avoid taking risks and focus only on the US Open scheduled at Flushing Meadows from August 30th.
Difficult choice
If Sinner did not play the Masters 1000 preceding Flushing Meadows, he would find himself in the strange situation of not having played intermediate events neither between Paris and Wimbledon nor between London and New York. The evolution of the minor problem with his right knee is progressing well, but what the world number one’s staff must decide now is whether to go to America to train without playing the preparatory tournament. There’s also the issue of Cincinnati’s humidity that could convince Sinner to opt out.
What does Sinner have
“Although we cannot go into the merits of the condition specification of sample – Andrea Bernetti, full professor of physical and rehabilitative medicine at UniSalento and general secretary of Simfer (Italian Society of Physical and Rehabilitative Medicine) analyzed to Adnkronos Salute – we can say that, when a tennis player suffers from a knee without having undergone a trauma acuteas would seem to be the case with Sinner, we are probably faced with an overload pathology, caused by the continuous stresses, jumps, braking, slips and violent changes of direction required by modern tennis.”
