Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni declares that Islam and its law, Sharia, are not compatible with the country’s and European culture. The Swedish, Dutch, German and other governments are moving closer to the intransigent positions of Poland and Hungary, in a general trend of opposition to fundamentalist demands. But in Great Britain the opposite is happening: The new Labor government is giving in to progressive Islamisation.
The Muslim mayor of London, Sadiq Khanalso a Labor member, was elected three times. This is but the most famous example. Other large centers have, or have had, Islamic mayors of the same political party: Birmingham, Leeds, Blackburn, Sheffield, Oxford, Luton, Oldham and Rochdale. Just in Birmingham – around 1.2 million inhabitants – 30 percent are Muslim (2021 data). The last leader of the Scottish National Party was a Pakistani of the same persuasion. Khan advocates tightening the penal attitude against “Islamophobia”, defined by a parliamentary committee, as phenomenon “with racist roots”which manifests itself with spoken or written words that cause, or could generate, anxious upset for Muslims who hear them, according to the “victim” himself (therefore without the need to prove a persecutory intent on the part of the alleged offender). In particular, online chats must be followed to identify offenders…
Critics claim that in this way the “thought police” of Orwellian memory is created (or strengthened). Among other things, the Labor Party has released an election video with a conversation between Keir Starmerthe current prime minister, and Sadiq Khan. The first states: «Islamophobia is intolerable, especially online, we must adopt much more robust measures, a zero tolerance policy». And the second replies: «I hope you can draw on your experience as attorney general to take concrete action against the guilty…».
From theory to practice, the rigorous application of “anti-Islamophobic” rules will be ensured by the appointment of a practicing Muslim MP of Pakistani origins as Lord Chancellor: the 44-year-old Shabana Mahmood. Whoever occupies this position is in charge of all English judges, determining their promotions and careers; moreover, he is now also Secretary of State (i.e. Minister) for Justice. It is a bit as if in Italy the first president of the Supreme Court, the president of the Constitutional Court, the vice-president of the CSM and the Minister of Justice were all of the Muslim faith.
At the inauguration the new Lord Chancellor was sworn in on Koranand in her speech she quoted the text where she talks about justice: she stated that she “as a Muslim” will always fight for “justice”. But he did not specify whether he means traditional British justice (which descends from the Magna Carta of 1215…), or the justice of Sharia, of Islamic law, which is very different, one might say opposed (as we know, it provides for beheadings, amputations judicial actions of hands and feet, stoning to death, among other things). It should be noted that the new Lord Chancellor mentioned the word “justice” 14 times in her speech, but not once used the word “freedom”. This appointment, which journalistically should be very relevant news, has not provoked debate in the English media at any level. There is another striking example: the recent announcement by the Foreign Minister, David Lammyof a restriction on the supply of weapons to Israel, due to a “clear risk” that they could be used to “break international humanitarian law…”. The implicit message here is that Israel is a state prone to illegal anti-humanitarian measures. This measure has received applause from the numerous “pro-Palestine” demonstrators who have marched in many British cities in recent weeks.
At this point we can ask ourselves the reason for such an alignment on the part of the British left (and not only) with Islamic demands. “There is no idea further to the right than Islamic ideology,” an ex-Muslim lady said in a video. Brave indeed, because Sharia prescribes the mandatory death penalty for any Muslim who abandons the faith. Again, in a large part of the media, those who criticize Islam are branded as “ultra-right”. Paradoxical situations are also created, where the majority of historical left-wing feminists remain silent on the oppression of women in Islam, even glossing over the female genital mutilation practiced on tens of millions of women. And what about the “pro-Palestine” gays in the West, while the Palestinians have to take refuge in tolerant Israel? It seems that we are afraid of fueling “racism”. There are few exceptions of those who openly oppose these practices which go against all Western laws; this is the case of the radical Emma Boninoformer Italian Foreign Minister, who lived for years in Cairo learning Arabic and campaigning against the practice of female mutilation, suffered by 80-90 percent of Egyptian women. Huge demonstrations have been seen in the streets of Europe in favor of Palestine (or Hamas), passing over in silence the machine-gun murders in the streets of Iran of hundreds of women protesting against the killings by the police of girls who were not wearing the Islamic veil “correctly”..
In addition to considerations of ideological affinity, there is a Muslim bloc vote in Britain, of around four million people. In the 2021 census they were 6.5 percent of the population. On the important site The Muslim Vote it explains how, by joining forces, the voters of the Islamic community can determine the success or otherwise of the candidates of other parties, in particular the Labor Party. Among the objectives listed by online propaganda, these themes stand out; in Palestine, a ceasefire by Israel and sanctions against it, as well as arriving at a State of Palestine. There is then talk of “eradication of “Islamophobia” in public services”: here, the police and judges are asked to fight “Islamophobia, misogyny and racism”, also with mandatory training of staff against “unconscious prejudice”. And again, in schools, it is hoped that “space will be given to Islamic needs” from teaching to clothing…
Regarding the electoral pressure exerted by this religious community, it should be remembered that with the English dry single-member system, in many constituencies a handful of votes can make the difference. In particular, these consensuses were essential to ensure the enormous majority of seats (63 percent, with 34 percent of the votes) obtained by Labor on 4 July. The new government’s pro-Islam measures serve to consolidate this political bond. If British Islamic believers founded their own group, as some of them would like, they would “split” that vote, with catastrophic consequences for the percentage of Labor itself. There is understandable concern in Britain. The recent savage stabbing of three young girls in Southport by a young psychopath has provoked violent reactions in many cities. It was discovered later that the boy was not Muslim, but the methods of the attack recalled those of other gratuitous attacks of a clear Islamist nature: the angry crowd attacked the local mosque. The media said that “extreme right” elements incited the riots by spreading false information about the killer’s religion. At that point, unfortunately, violence broke out. All against a backdrop of growing immigration: between 2011 and 2021 the English population increased by 3.5 million (around 6.3 percent). Of this increase, 1.16 million (33 percent) are Muslims (source: The Muslim Council of Britain). Despite promises, conservative governments have not reduced the influx of immigrants (net 685,000 in 2023), and this explains the disaffection of many of their supporters. Meanwhile, social, housing, health, education and transport services are increasingly under pressure. And the British are increasingly impatient with those who want to cross the border of the United Kingdom clandestinely.
