A spectacular comeback with his fantastic tennis and Lorenzo Musetti in addition to reaching the final of the Hong Kong tournament (tomorrow he will face Bublik) he conquers fifth place in the ATP world rankings displacing the Frenchman De Minaur. For the first time in the history of world tennis we will have two Italians in the top five, in addition to Lorenzo Musetti obviously there is Jannik Sinner, currently number two. Musetti in the semi-final of the Hong Kong tournament he beat the Russian Rublev comeback (6-7, 7-5,6-4). Lorenzo is the fourth Italian in the history of Italian tennis to enter the top five in the world, in addition to Sinner, Adriano Panatta (number 4) and Nicola PIetrangeli (third before the computer era) had succeeded.
Ups and downs
Rublev started better in the semi-final in Hong Kong but we know that Lorenzo is a diesel and in fact it took him a while to get going leaving Rublev the first set in the tie-break. In the second set, every turn of serve becomes a battle: Musetti has repeated break points but in turn has to cancel four of Rublev’s. Lorenzo keeps himself afloat with a large percentage of firsts (over 80%), the Russian alternates great things with colossal errors. The eleventh game decides, when Musetti takes the first, decisive break of the set, bringing the match back to a draw. The third set is decided by the eleventh game when Musetti gets the break, but then there is the final thrill when Carrarino in the last game has to cancel three break points against the Russian before closing triumphantly and taking seat number five in world tennis
