The Pro Pal make war in our cities to protest the war in Gaza and the Flotilla block

Parades, block of ports, employment of university. The general strike organized by CGIL and trade unions (without authorization of the guarantor) blocks Italy

Here we are. Italy is the scene of one general strike which involves all the big cities of the peninsula. The slogan is the same as on September 22, “we block everything”, the trigger, however, is the block and the subsequent detention by Israel of Global Sumud Flotilla activists.

Certain, The noble intent appears much more prosaic if you remember that activists were intercepted at sea by Israeli soldiers on Wednesday eveningso much so that already in the night spontaneous manifestations of support for Flotilla exploded in various Italian cities. Landini, however, launched the general strike not for the following day, or Thursday, but for Friday, as per the now consolidated practice.

Consequential, therefore, the Ilare (and legitimate) comment of the premier Giorgia Meloni: «I would have expected that at least on a question they considered so important they had not launched a general strike on Friday, because long weekend and revolution are not together». And it is to be hoped that the processions remain peaceful, seen the previous ones of the last pro-Pal event in Milan.

Over one hundred parades throughout Italy

The agitation proclaimed by the CGIL, together with the Autonomous Unions of Basic USB, SI-COBAS, CUB, SGB and Unicobas, will involve all public and private sectors for the whole day of October 3. Despite The strike commission of the strikes declared the mobilization “illegitimate” For “violation of the legal notice of notice”, the unions pulled straight confirming over one hundred events throughout the peninsula.

In Rome, the main procession saw the concentration at 8:30 in Piazza Vittorio with the final destination Piazza dei Cinquecento, in front of Termini station. The Secretary General of the CGIL Maurizio Landini He personally participated in the Roman event, keeping a press point at the top of the procession around 9.15. Milan saw its procession starting from Porta Venezia to end in Piazza Leonardo da Vinci, in front of the Polytechnic.

But all the main Italian cities are involved in processions: in Bologna the route connected Piazza Malpighi to Piazza Maggiore, while in Naples the demonstrators crossed the historic center to reach Piazza del Plebiscito.

Landini defined the mobilization as “a humanitarian reaction of fraternity and solidarity”, underlining how this shows “humanity and will of good people who want to stop a genocide”.

Widespread inconvenience

Today’s strike will hardly stop the Israeli army in Gaza, it is instead certain that the impact of the strike on transport has proved to be devastating since the early hours of the morning.

For the railway sector, the agitation took place at 9:00 pm on Thursday 2 October and will last until 21:00 on Friday, causing massive inconvenience throughout Italy. In Milan Centrale there were delays up to five hours and numerous cancellations, while in Rome Termini the delays reached 80 minutes with dozens of suppressed trains.

In Milan, the ATM lines were not guaranteed between 8:45 and 15:00 and after 18:00, with the M2 trains that skipped the Lambrate stop. Same thing in Rome, where the subway will work from the start of the service at 8:30 and from 17:00 to 20:00, with the Termini station completely closed. In Naples, the situation was even more serious: line 1 of the subway was completely suspended at the Garibaldi station.

The aerial sector also heavily resentful of the strike, with the agitation involving flight and land staff from 00:01 to 24:00, however respecting the guarantee bands from 7:00 to 10:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00. In Puglia, two connections between Bari and Milan Linate operated by Ita Airways were deleted.

Total paralysis day also for many Italian ports. In Livorno, the demonstrators invaded the carriageways in front of the Zara gate since 6 in the morning, completely blocking access to the northern area of the port with barriers and burns on.

Hundreds of heavy vehicles and trucks were trapped, causing lively protests of truck drivers and motorists. Same goes in Genoa, where significant blocks have been recorded at port gates.

Inconvenience also in various schools and universities, with The Normal University of Pisa occupied by Pro-Pal activists.
