Israel strikes Hezbollah at the heart. The death of Hassan Nasrallah is increasingly probable.

Almost a year after the outbreak of the war, and in the midst of the conflict with Hezbollah, yesterday Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke at the United Nations General Assembly. In his very harsh speech he mentioned Hamas, the Iranian threat, the continuation of the fighting in Lebanon and the role of the United Nations, defined as «an anti-Semitic swamp, an anti-Israeli flat-earth society and a contemptuous, disdainful farce» As soon as Netanyahu came down from stage, Israel Defense Forces spokesman Daniel Hagari said the Israeli Air Force struck Hezbollah’s headquarters in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon. According to Hagari, the headquarters was built under civilian buildings in the Dahiyeh neighborhood, a known Hezbollah stronghold in Beirut. According to reports in Lebanon, senior Hezbollah officials were in the headquarters at the time of the attack, and Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was among the targets of the attack. A senior US official told ABC News that Israel had targeted Nasrallah in the attack, adding that the Hezbollah leader and some of his associates were in Beirut on a brief visit at the time of the attack. A source close to Hezbollah said the leader of the Lebanese armed group was unreachable following Israeli attacks on the southern outskirts of Beirut last night, as reported by the Reuters news agency.

For its part, Hezbollah has not issued any official statement but security sources in Lebanon told Sky News’ Arabic-language service that Hezbollah’s delay in announcing Nasrallah’s fate increases the likelihood that he has been eliminated. The Israeli army, in a statement published on Telegram, announced that it had eliminated “the terrorist Muhammad Ali Ismail, commander of the Hezbollah missile unit in southern Lebanon. His deputy, the terrorist Hussein Ahmad Ismail, was also killed in the operation, and other Hezbollah commanders and operators were eliminated together with them.” Shortly before the attack on Hassan Nasrallah, the head of Hezbollah’s Executive Council, Hashim Safi al-Din, was killed in an attack in Beirut. Safi al-Din, a senior Hezbollah member and known drug trafficker, Nasrallah’s cousin and head of Hezbollah’s Executive Council, was considered the organization’s “number 2” and was the person designated to succeed Nasrallah in the event of his death. According to some sources, Hashem Safieddine, Nasrallah’s cousin and head of Hezbollah’s Executive Council, was injured or eliminated in the attack, but a source within the terrorist organization told Reuters that Safieddine was alive. Lebanon’s Health Ministry said at least two people were killed and 76 were injured in the Israeli attack, but this was a preliminary assessment and the numbers were expected to rise.

Last night, the Israeli army issued another evacuation order for residents of Al-Barajneh and Al-Hadath neighborhoods, urging them to leave specific locations marked on maps in Beirut’s southern Dahiyeh area: «If you are present near to Hezbollah facilities, for the safety of yourself and your loved ones you are obliged to immediately evacuate the buildings and move away from them for a distance of no less than 500 meters”, declared the Israeli army’s Arabic-language spokesperson, Avicay Adraee. During the night, in southern Syria, the intelligence of the Intelligence Division and the Northern Command conducted an operation that led to the elimination of Ahmed Muhammad Fahd: « Fahd was responsible for terrorist operations against the IDF forces and the State of Israel, coming from the southern Syrian area, including a targeted attack plan towards the Golan Heights. He was neutralized while he was planning to carry out another The imminent terrorist act will continue to target and neutralize Hamas members wherever they are.” As mentioned, Hezbollah is silent on the fate of Nasrallah, however, signals are arriving from Iran that suggest that the Hezbollah leader is dead. In this sense Ali Larijani, advisor to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, declared on Iranian state television: “The resistance has strong leaders and cadres, and every leader who is martyred will be replaced.” Hamas also took a stand: “We… strongly condemn the brutal and ongoing Zionist aggression and escalation against the brotherly Lebanese people through ferocious air strikes, including today’s attack targeting residential buildings.” Finally, as we write, a missile launched from Lebanon towards Tel Aviv has fallen into the sea. Meanwhile, the IAF is conducting large-scale attacks against numerous targets belonging to the terrorist organization Hezbollah in the Beqaa areas and several locations in southern Lebanon. Targets hit include launchers intended to hit Israeli civilians, buildings used to store weapons and infrastructure.
